The manga was faithful to the LNs. I think maybe they don't like the plot or political focus? Once they get going (and deal with important issues), our MCs aren't really slow.

I suppose it's kind of a spoiler for Magical Revolution so I'll mark it just in case but it took them like 50 chapters to progress towards actual romance, meanwhile Mai and Lily are dating and kissing at the end of chapter 1 :P

Yes, the fact that lots of the manga deals with other things in the meantime does matter, and no I don't dislike it (but I couldn't resisting sneaking in a jab about how verbose it can be - it's basically "tell, don't show" the manga). It just doesn't work as a comparison because of that. Unless you meant the couple involving the vampire, which I'm now realizing might have been the point (it's kind of like a succubus? :P) but even in this case I don't think anything was hinted except the fact that they are somewhat close?

No? Aside from the insecurity around not hearing "I love you" this chapter was focused on, Lily asking Mai why Mai has been so open to kissing recently, and Mai responding because your mom told me about your struggles and I felt sorry for you. Which is something they need to actually talk through as a couple.

That's fair. Our idea of slow is different than. It seems that normally people call things slow because the characters are taking their time in a way that feels unnecessary or avoidable. If there are real-world issues more important than relationship stuff, I don't consider it slow. It's why I disagree with people who claim "This Monster Wants to Eat Me," or "My Sister's Best Friend, My Lover," are slow. I always ask, "How would they have reasonably gotten together faster during all that, and isn't this missing the point a bit?" So I'd consider MagiRevo pretty fast.

That's a reference to a TikTok sound. I didn't actually try to sum up the chapter.

I only brought up MagiRevo because in the two instances where someone needed energy or blood regularly to survive their partners were much more practical about incorporating that into their relationships regardless of having anything else sorted out. The body horror in that series has a surprising amount of accommodation. Mainly because they all sit at the same table in the cafeteria so to speak.

It was just amusing to me how differently this series has taken it in comparison. Even when someone's survival needs are known out of the gate, even when it further has been explained in a practical way, the personality types and romcom-ness of it all is where there's room for drama. If their more practical 3rd wheel friend was involved it would have been a short series.

I figured this was going to be the chapter where communication happens, along with the "I love you". Fantastic execution though and my love for this series continues to grow.

Still great imo.

I wonder how often dad thinks about he’s 100% going to hell because he wanted to clap demon cheeks

There we go, just as expected, this got them to properly talk about their feelings. (And Mai is getting eaten now... :D)

Depends on the setting just how bad that is, really. Many eastern works just have hell as 'the place demons originate from' rather than 'place of eternal torment for mortal souls'. Granted, this work feels like it could swing toward the latter, but who knows? Either way he'd hardly be the first to say 'damn the long-term consequences' and find himself damned by them.

Also, I quite liked Lily's game face on the lower corner of page 27.

50% of Romcom plots can be solved by adding a very pissed off tilty claret into the mix, so she can sit the protagonist down and tell them how they are being dumb. (Kind of reminds me of my own experience with friends in relationships.)

Considering the situation they found each other in I wonder which lips are supposed to move here.

(Ch.16) This was really awesome, I love how heartfelt this was. This is ground that has been tread in art for literally thousands of years, not to mention in yuri manga, but there I feel like it really gets across the feeling and the thought behind the experience of navigating love and learning to communicate. It’s almost like a charming and empathetic primer on how to communicate in relationships. And I love how Lily uses her past experiences with their relationship and the trust those have built to help push her forward. It’s adorable. And the sweetness of the artstyle really helps. The eroticism and that little spike of danger from that succubus element works so well with the extremely shoujo energy, it’s like lesbian alchemy. I’m reminded of that classic line “I like girly things, like girls.”

I really hope it doesn’t just fade to black on their intimacy for the next chapter, not just because I rly want to see it, but because I think treating sex as natural in a relationship would go really well with all the stuff this manga has been doing. I’m not knowledgeable enough about the yuri manga publishing situation to know if that’s likely, but some manga seem able to go to places that I wouldn’t expect something in their genre to be allowed to touch, and I’n really hoping that’s the case here.

Seems like the manga is winding down, and if it is I absolutely support that as an artistic decision. But as a reader, I really hope it keeps going a little longer. I adore this series and these characters.

Agreed with @Linterdiction on all counts. This whole story has been greater than the sum of it's parts. A simple, classic story but done with a level of polish and stylistic flair that keeps me coming back for more each time. I also do hope we get some explicit sex scenes for the same reason. The author clearly understands well how to weave eros into the work, and it would be very fitting.

It does feel like things are wrapping up here, but I am still curious about the details about both the succubus contract, and Mai's seeming immunity to the succubus magic. My pet theory is still that Mai is secretly a half (or quarter?) succubus too, but we could go anywhere with this.
