She didn't realize it, but in her attempt to become a Gal, she was the "otaku who is kind to gal" to Nagi.

friend? FRIEND?

is this what the subtext tag means?

the most homosexual moment of two girls' lives (to this point) ends with "and that's why we're closer friends now."

That's exactly what the subtext tag means.

I was actually a bit startled by the tone shift in this chapter. I wish there'd been a slightly more substantive change in the dynamic following aaaallllll that. it wouldn't suit the tone but that scene was so impactful that it's just a shame.

After 50 years of marriage they might question if they are just friends

man I'd never seen a subtext so damn strong before, that was the gayest confession ever. Like, I know we put the subtext tag here and there but this is the closest one to actual TEXT I've read. like nagi is so insanely in love it's stupid

Nagi is totally in lesbians with Airi, but her head hasn't clocked in on the fact that she's gay yet, so she's trying to label their relationship with whatever she has available.

Normally I'd say there's still room for her to be a very clingy, codependent friend, but "I wish we could merge into one person" kind of eliminates that. That's not language you use in that kind of context.
