Honoka's backstory got to me quite a bit. I wasn't a very happy teenager, and I can definitely relate with the liberating feeling of finally finding your place in the world. Glad she had Onibi-Kaichō to take her hand and give her that confort zone she needed to shine ^_^

I liked this chapter a lot. It's bothered me all this time, that Onibi is so lionized by the other manga club members despite her, you know, not drawing very well at all. It feels like a gag off-tone for the comic, Michiru for example is a talented photographer, clearly.
Since neither Honoka nor mask are idiots, it's always been so weird to me why they talk of Onibi's talent and her not actually having that - or that if she is supposed to genuinely have talent, why present it with a weird joke that she draws those yaoi triangle head scribbles.

With this chapter and the genuinely awesome and wise things Onibi had to say and show to Honoka in her hour of need (and who knows to Mask too similarly) you can get a reason why they might not see her drawings as they are but as they dream they are.

I would say, that Onibi-senpai is a talented mangaka...maybe not the best one, if about drawing, but stiry....or let us say, she is less talented as more obsessed and passionate about it, although her creative streak is nigh unbeaten.

Still, she deserves to be the prez, she beiing a motivational factor, be it mask's secret rival or Honoka's...mentor....anchor...or something.

There's more to making manga than just art. The manga club particularly admire Onibi's writing and creativity, her ability to create anthropomorphic scenarios between inanimate objects is truly great. Remember her take on the surveyor's tripod? Genius!

I mean they all draw pretty badly TBH, it's just an affectation to distinguish the in-universe manga from the actual manga they exist in. In-universe Onibi draws very well, but more importantly, she's unhinged about it.

Oh, so that's what this was, thanks for saying it, I was confused. I was certain this was earlier in the timeline with how distant Haruka was acting and how she didn't have Kanae's contact info but the manga never pointed the flashback out. That was a five year old chapter, it would have been nice if they opened this one with a "*this is a flashback to Ch. 89" for those of us how don't remember the details every single chapter...

you guys haven't read the ononana arc upwards of 5 times?? (/s) This chapter SHOCKED me when the raws came out the other day. Haruka's advice in 222 being "mess up on purpose" seemed a little incongruous, so I wondered if maybe she secretly did have an umbrella in 89... I NEVER expected it to be CONFIRMED ON-SCREEN IN A FLASHBACK.

Haruka pining from the start is still definitely a retcon imo-- they were clearly originally written as strangers who became friends and then more-than-friends. but I don't mind because it's sweet and it actually ties in better with their 2021 prequel chapter; 298 suggests the possibility that Haruka caught feelings way back then while Onoda forgot their first meeting

My fav ship by far, doesn't get enough attention from Kishi tho
