I choose the word "depressed" over "angsty" to fit the mood of the story, not to clinically diagnose the characters lol. You immediately open that thread with spoilers for the properly translated version of the novel based on the MTL translation nobody wants to read, so is it really surprising that it's a lonely thread?

I think you mean I immediately open the thread with "I'm a fool reading the MTL version". Which is then, very predictively, followed by discussion about recent MTL chapters.

But no, I am not surprised the thread is lonely because the MTL sucks.
I would have never started reading the MTL version if the good human TL had been around when I started reading.
But that good TL started after I had been interpreting the MTL and discussing it in chapter comments for awhile. I was already hooked on the series despite the terrible MTL and, as a long time reader, didn't want to quit the MTL as I waited for the good translation to catch up.

I'm still reading and commenting on the good human TL WordPress threads too. And if that silly site for the MTL wasn't having issues with comments being posted on the chapter pages, I never would have created that thread in the first place.
But there is no longer a way to comment and discuss on those MTL chapter threads, which prompted me to create a thread to discuss recent developments.

Sorry if my thread somehow upset you. I'll edit my first comment so it's more clear I was intending to discuss untranslated chapters.

I wasn't upset, I just closed the thread as soon as I saw spoilers and went "oh well I guess that's why it's a lonely thread lol". I can't take part in the discussion if the discussion is based on stuff I can't read without abandoning quality standards, and I doubt this is that rare of a stance, especially on Dynasty (which feels particularly hostile to MTL compared to a place like the Mangadex forums)

And it's not a rare stance...hell it's my stance on TL but Shuukura is the one exception.
There would be no exceptions if it hadn't ensnared me very early on despite the MTL.

People on mangadex are often happy to get a translation at all, even if it's bad. There are so many abandoned translations that a manga you read continuing is more than enough. Hell, my reading list is mostly abandoned works. Their lack of hostility towards MTL is understandable.
Dynasty, on the other hand, has a quality standard for manga that aren't MTL translations, so people are more likely to have a negative view of it, even if the quality of the finished product is very good.
Then there's ExHentai commenters, who are distainful and vitriolic towards MTL regardless of quality.

I'm very much of the opinion that there's no such thing as a good MTL of any sort of art. Even if it turns out perfectly the best it can achieve is merely "gets the facts across". That's fine if you're using it to translate a sign or instructions or other dry direct form of text but anything artistic, anything vague, anything where tone matters, it's shit. You might as well just be reading a synopsis of the plot.

Thank Madoka we've now Amawashi translating Shuukura though, because the editing on Shuukura's MTL is basically nonexistent and nobody should start reading it after catching up with the good translation.
But there's little chance Shuukura addicts that had been reading the MTL for over 300 chapters like I have will be able to quit at this point. Best we can do is read both translations.

Yeah, sometimes you're just desperate for the story. I plowed through the 5 available Arioto translations, despite 4 and 5 probably being modern MTL (not that bad superficially but a lot of pronoun/speaker confusion) and the first 3 being just bad (I'm guessing a human with poor grasp of English or a total lack of quality control).

But I'm not that desperate for ShuuKara, so I can avoid the MTLs for now.

Ok! Based on Chapter 4, I believe that Sendai has sadistic tendencies, though she may be unaware of them herself. However, I think Miyagi suspects this too. it’s evident when Miyagi reflects, 'It's as if she's not herself,' referring to Sendai. Also, Miyagi seems to want to bring Sendai down to her level, metaphorically speaking. At this point, Miyagi is simply testing Sendai, but the orders she gives are becoming increasingly intense. If that makes sense but this is just coming from someone who hasn't read the light novel and this is just my rookie predictions. :)

Wow this manga version of Miyagi feels much less prickly than the WN version. She comes off as just a cute tsundere in the manga.

Do you want an answer as to whether Sendai has sadistic tendencies? The manga has a very different feel than the WN because it cuts out so much of the internal dialogue.
But as for Sendai being secretly sadistic: she is not. Neither her or Miyagi like letting the other have too much control and they tend to jostle a bit to take back control.

The novel has a lot of the line that showed up in this chapter, which is "that was gross but I didn't hate it" which is maybe the most telling line in the early chapters. Like, gross is the instinctual reaction, and not hating is the, "oh shit I done gayed" reaction.
