I very much enjoyed reading your interesting and informative post. It has given me much to think about.

I'm sorry to say if there's a joke or question in here, it's gone completely over my head...

I'm not sure why they didn't address the actual issue there but I'm 99% certain that was a bot. It was basically a copy+paste of the post above it but with a couple words changed to synonyms. Went ahead and removed them.

Sorry about the confusion. In my head it was obvious that I was saying "this guy is a bot," but clearly it wasn't obvious to anyone else. I'll spell it out next time.

@Alice Cheshire Thank you, but you might want to look at that person's reaction to your warning.

@Alice Cheshire Thank you, but you might want to look at that person's reaction to your warning.

You jumped on another user for something as small and inoffensive as making a joke about having a spirit animal not even directed at anyone.
You are not "being targeted" you are being told not to harass another user.

What you and Alice feel qualifies as "cultural appropriation of native-american culture" has nothing to do with a manga about hamster yuri, and I will not be called a bully for telling you not to jump people over an imagined minor slight not even aimed at anyone.

Some moderator who isn't Alice, please bring some sanity into this nonsense.

I can't relate to your cultural plight, but I believe this is the third time something like this has happened involving you. If you must make your concerns heard, find more constructive ways of doing so.

However, I must disagree with this summary. 2Spirit is well within their rights on this forum to voice the concerns they had, and their phrasing was also inoffensive. They even used the word "please," completely devoid of sarcasm. Nobody was jumped, or harassed. Altair didn't even reply. And believe me, Altair is not a person to back down from personal slights if he considers them as such. I then take issue with the idea that you were some unwilling participant in this. You've actually made more posts in that thread than Alice and 2Spirit combined, even though there were ample opportunities to simply drop the matter.

Finally, we arrive at this post. You've now twice decided to belabour this rather than simply leaving it be, and I'm not even sure what you're looking for. Do you want 2Spirit to be scolded? Do you want to be told you're completely correct? You were reprimanded for a tone that you already apologised for. From my perspective, we're done here.

I have never claimed to be an "unwilling participant" and I don't know where you got that from.
What I did say is that I am not the source of the conflict like Alice claims, this all started entirely because Cherokee accused someone of mocking their people out of nowhere with little to no basis and then got defensive when challenged on it.

It was an uncalled for remark that they can't reasonably have expected to lead anywhere but to a conflict.
https://dynasty-scans.com/forum/topics/17943-ms-kuzuryu-s-favorite-is-small-discussion?page=5#forum_post_668924

In case you didn't notice, my initial response was simply telling them that no one was mocking anyone and to chill out.
https://dynasty-scans.com/forum/topics/17943-ms-kuzuryu-s-favorite-is-small-discussion?page=5#forum_post_669068

I did not approach the subject of cultural appropriation until after Cherokee then tried to argue their point by linking a very poor and ridiculously biased opinion-piece article on the subject and nothing else.
https://dynasty-scans.com/forum/topics/17943-ms-kuzuryu-s-favorite-is-small-discussion?page=5#forum_post_669108
What else was there to address? They literally said nothing else.

As for why Altair hasn't reacted, I couldn't possibly say because I don't know them, but I don't think it changes the fact that they were being unfairly accused of mocking native americans from out of nowhere. That may not be a big insult but it's an uncalled for insult none the less and my original response was not disproportionate to it.

As for my "goal" in all this, it was simply to inform Cherokee that it's not alright to randomly accuse other users of doing something malicious with so little basis. It's disrespectful and off-topic at best, baiting a fight at worst.

The only reason this has gotten out of hand is because Cherokee, rather than defend themself or even saying a single word, immediately went to a moderator and claimed to be getting "targeted" and said moderator deciding to hard-side with Cherokee to the point of warning me that I'm bullying someone and ignoring Cherokee's side entirely "because Cherokee is right about cultural appropriation."

Honestly, this would've ended after 2 posts if Alice hadn't started accusing me of breaking forum rules and bullying Cherokee.

I made exactly 3 (4 but I don't count the first) posts on the subject in total before Alice "ended" it and sent us here, please don't act like I spammed the thread with vitriol.

I really hate wading into a discussion like this, but I think @BoobTwinkler is struggling not to let their emotions get the better of them, and I happen to side with them. The original post was quite generic, not targeting any person or culture, and I quite understand why @BoobTwinkler felt that the response was disproportionate. From there, things have largely spiraled out of control from both sides when de-escalation should have been called for. Yes, there are things that they shouldn't have said or should have been expressed differently, but they have also large ackowledged that.

Globally, there are a number of cultures with belief in spirit animals, and that doesn't even touch on New Age beliefs and fantasy stories that have little connection to real-world mythology, nor the distinctions between the totem spirits of e.g. different Native American nations. When @2SpiritCherokeePrincess says that referencing a spirit animal is mockery of their people (pronoun corrected), this is also a denial of the many other cultures (such as those of the Ainu and indigenous Australians) that practice some form of spirit animal worship. The Term "spirit animal" is a generic term referring to any spirit that appears in the form of an animal and does not reference nor target any particular culture. Yes, you can make the argument that we use the term for Native American totemism because of colonialism, but you could equally argue that the early colonials used that term because it was what they were already familiar with from Old World cultural beliefs. Had the term "totem" (based on an Ojibwe word) been used, there would be a case for cultural appropriation, as this has a far more culturally specific meaning.

Yes, I did read the article on cultural appropriation that was linked, and I would love to take the time to tear apart its logical fallacies paragraph by paragraph. Sadly, life calls. I will, however, say that some of the articles it links for support do a much better job of distinguishing between totemism, animal spirits, and spirit animals. This one was an especially good read.

In summary, please bring the tempers down. Remember:
1. You own your feelings.
2. Not every post needs a response.

Disclosure: Yes, I do believe in nature spirits. These beliefs originated from my childhood in the English countryside and have nothing to do with Native American beliefs, so I imagine that the term "spirit animal" elicits a very different image for me than it does for @2SpiritCherokeePrincess. I have also "met with" an animal spirit, which was quite an intense experience. Yet, quite frankly, I feel less attacked by @BoobTwinkler's attitude than by that of @2SpiritCherokeePrincess. There is more than one side to this discussion, but it has, I feel, been treated as a very one-sided argument. Please rein it in before others are hurt by these thoughtless comments.

I read the entire thread and these posts very carefully before responding. I know what was said, and I know you are not solely at fault. I did not say that. I took issue with this comment:

Please crusade for something constructive instead, like helping the poor.

I still take issue with this comment. I don't believe it was appropriate. You made your apologies for it in a broader and more constructive post, I don't think more needs to be said.

I made exactly 3 (4 but I don't count the first) posts on the subject in total before Alice "ended" it and sent us here, please don't act like I spammed the thread with vitriol.

I did not intend that implication, I apologise if it came across that way. I can appreciate your feelings of one-sidedness. An issue this tense demanded more neutrality than Alice was willing to give you. However, I will simply repeat that from my perspective there isn't much more to say. You've made your point, and 2Spirit has made theirs.

@Yuki Kitsune

You have been a much appreciated bastion of reason.

@OrangePekoe

You are entirely right that my remark was more hostile than what was warranted and I again apologize (to all parties involved) for not realizing so myself before the damage was already done.

I have nothing further to add so unless Alice or Cherokee still feel they have something they take issue with, I too would consider this matter done with.

Now, can we please get back to talking about the big-butt hamster yuri?

You don't get to be the one to say that when you were the source of the problem in the first place.

... is not something I would ever expect a mod to say about someone trying to end a heated off-topic discussion.
Really?

Perhaps I could have worded it better but when someone keeps arguing only to make a post like that it seems like they're just trying to get the last word in. If BoobTwinkler had actually been sincere about getting back on-topic then they would have just dropped the subject and moved on.

Please pardon any weird filenames being introduced in downloads for the near future. Due to the MangaDex troubles of late, my personal software needs a little bit of fine tuning that won't be done till next week. In the meantime we'll be using alternate solutions so that we're able to stay up to date on any MD-only series.

In the coming days I'll also do my best to get to a few outstanding questions in this thread that haven't yet been addressed. My apologies for the delays.

Yes. I'm personally not associated whatsoever with the images gallery, so I can't speak to whether something specific may or may not be posted there. However, you're perfectly encouraged to request your art if you'd like to!

Can we have younger than she looks as a tag? It very much applies to this comic, and I vaguely recall reading some others in the past that had similar premises.

Listen, we've had problems with bots coming to the forums before, but this is the first time I saw a pornbot

The servers are maintained by a benefactor known as GOD. The site is maintained by a small group of folks, with the daily experience primarily handled by myself and drpepperfan. On the forum side you'll also see Alice Cheshire and Nezchan doing heavy lifting. We're all just volunteers who do this for our own satisfaction. We comply with any requests that license holders have, and have been very grateful for the level of grace that (most) license holders have granted us. I think that answers everything? Love you too, take care.
