Chapter 2, page 32, panel 1: "An Amateur College Student's First Lesbian Experience" definitely could be a JAV (Japanese Adult Video).
Gentleness and seduction, while progressing to some lewd acts typifies a good "Rezu" JAV.

Totally hate the plot, but you bet I'll stick around for the sexy time.

Have bad news for you chief, unless you have a glow stick fetish

Well, there's a good chance it'll get updated with the Uncensored Version, sometime when those come out...hopefully

It’s a special world where making someone watch porn while sitting on your lap is considered a legit method of conversion “therapy” to change someone’s sexuality. Uncomfortable with having to sit in someone’s lap? Let’s make it more uncomfortable with making you watch explicit porn at the same time! That’ll make it more appealing! Like, really?

Man, she’s not interested in making her fall for her. She’s just interested in making sure she doesn’t freak out too bad when she inevitably fucks her. What next? Stick a finger in her without warning during a graphic lesbian orgy porno and assume any moisture means she’s raring to go?

And all of that ignores that the whole set up with the “bet” is designed to make Marika more resistant to “falling” since she doesn’t get paid if she does. Ugh.

Marika was always gay and Aya's fine-tuned Gaydar detected the bullshit immediately after the bullshit she spewed, at the beginning of Chapter 1. Really, from a story perspective, Aya's just tryna make Marika realise that she's living a life in denial and that she should not only come to terms with her abashed gayness but also choose her as her partner. Her methods, however, are dubious, at best, but best not to take it too seriously.

Think I'm stopping here. I just find Marika too unlikable to keep going

She gets better. She's just in total denial over herself and obsessed with normality to the point that she thinks being anything abnormal is, in some way, impossible or wrong for her, despite being gayer than the sun is bright. This story is about her journey to discovering/finally coming to terms about her sexuality

My hopes for this series are that Marika both realizes she's gay and then tears into Fuwa for being a manipulative idiot

Good News: You're in for a ride, then (so long as things are kept the same all the way to the end of the first LN Volume)

"Rezu"? Come on... it's the Japanese for Lezz. A borrowed word from English. Translator didn't do their homework.

Once the Uncensored version comes, it'll basically become a Hentai/Ecchi, anyway...speaking of which, where are the Ecchi, Tsundere, and Comedy tags?

I guess that Aya's gaydar went off after being around Marika for a while and she decided to make her realize it. And/or she actually fell for Marika first. But the method is pretty stupid.

This is far less sick, but it reminds me of things like Harumachi Tsurara's The Law of Universal Gravitation.

^^ I think that what makes my skin crawl about this kind of story is that not infrequently, people who protest too much about their sexuality really aren't ready.

"There are some people who want to split things into "yuri" and "rezu" based on whether those have sexual content, but this distinction doesn't exist."

So it is like the distinction between "shoujo ai" and "yuri".

Ah, no, not quite. In Japan, there is some discussion about the exact meanings of "yuri" and "rezu" (and "GL" as well) but as for "shoujo ai" everyone knows what it means. "Shoujo ai" means heterosexual loli porn.

Here, in the English-speaking world, "shoujo ai" was at one point fanspeak for soft yuri, but it's become obsolete since then -- mainly because people found what the real meaning of the term in Japan was!

That being said, I actually have a harder time understanding compensated dating than I do outright prostitution. Paying for sex is pretty straigh-forward, but paying for someone to essentially just hang out with you for an hour or two kind of baffles me. Sure, she laughs at your jokes, listens to your problems, compliments you, but like, of course she does, you are paying her for it.

For whatever reason, Japanese culture seems far more comfortable with that sort of fake companionship. It isn't even a new phenomenon, since that's basically how the geisha system worked (and works).

It's how the whole hostess club system works as well. To quote:

"Hostesses light cigarettes, provide beverages for men, offer flirtatious conversation, and sing karaoke to entertain customers. Hostesses can be seen as the modern counterpart of geishas, providing entertainment to groups of salarymen after work. Hostess clubs are distinguished from strip clubs in that there is no dancing, prostitution, or nudity."

Strange that some commenters claim they don't understand the point of such an establishment. It appears they share the old chauvinistic notion that women's only use is sex. It has never been the way the Japanese think, though: in their culture, all interactions with women have value -- and it makes perfect sense to pay to have women talk with you, sing, play music for you, etc.

The Answer to all of those is a resounding... Yes! However, the series will elaborate further on that, later on (so long as it goes in the same (so long as things are kept the same all the way to the end of the first LN Volume). Needless to say, you're in for a ride.

Ah yes, a classic. Although, in that case, it was borderline Rape while, here, it's Dubcon and Tsundere.

In the case of Marika, she's just so obsessed with normality to the point that she thinks being anything abnormal is, in some way, impossible or wrong for her, despite being gayer than the sun is bright. She also has an enormous degree of Pride and Ego that stops her from being true to herself because admitting that she's as gay as the sky is blue would mean admitting that she's been wrong, this whole time, and has been wasting her time by protesting over nothing, which would be a huge blow to her Ego.

TL;DR - She's a Tsundere who doesn't want to admit she's gay because admitting she was wrong would be a blow to her ego

Its the creepo rapey-ness AND the underage explicit scenes that im gonna duck out for. bizarre that the latter doesnt ever register. When you get into written stuff you'd think it'd get more obvious.

Holy cow. Can I just say how hi-res this copy is? Plus the editing is so clean! I can zoom in and it's damn clean! You guys are good!

Oh, and does anyone know what font was used? I like it.

P.S. This plot is not my cup of tea but I'll stick around to see how it goes.

I used GelPenUpright for the speaking font, Spinner Rack Bb Bold for most shouting, and a smattering of fonts for the SFX; if you need any listed, let me know!

Same shit happened to me, after just a minute of watching a random Yuri OVA that was recommended to me, on YouTube, lmao...granted, I was 12, at the time, but that shit opened my eyes to a world I didn't even think was possible, back then.

I look at the title and thought "Oh, a light novel adaptation? Nice, I just read Otherside Picnic, this looks like it will be fun" Then after I read first chapter and thinking that it was all a bit wonky but I mean, it is just a setup and the girl is actually gay, so we might have something interesting here, maybe she just does the whole payment thing to have a friend and she really just feels lonely and treats the girl fine, so slow burn romance.
After reading second chapter, yeah, the writer clearly never TALKED to a real girl before. This is just a no. At least reading as someone that never went to Japan, this just feels like the stereotype that all lesbians are sexual predators. Who THE FUCK thinks that watching porn with someone that has zero interest in you, that you met for a week, is a good idea? She is forcing hugs and personal space, just everything she is doing is making the other girl creeped out.

TL;DR Expected a cute slow burn "oh I realized that I'm gay" instead got creepy sexual harasser

Yes, "rezu" is obviously from the katakana reading of "lez", but it's an entrenched term in Japanese nerd culture. "Lez" also has an offensive angle to it in English that "rezu" does not for a Japanese lesbian.
