Thank you for the sources! I was able to finish Ch 15 on mangadex. It was overall an enjoyable story. I thought the ending was absolutely precious with plenty of lovey-dovey feels. I'm satisfied with the ending.
Though I'm trying to make sense of why Aya decided it would be better if she maintained the image of Marika's rival and opposition, and thought if she revealed her feelings it would only get in the way. So she decides it's okay for Marika to hate her and see her as a villain. This is explained in ch 14 but I'm having trouble understanding why she thought this was necessary. if anyone can share their thoughts on this.
She was determined to fulfill her role as Marika had requested, striving to "give" as much as she "took" according to her understanding of those terms. She didn’t want to feel like she was taking advantage of Marika. To achieve this, she couldn’t treat their arrangement like a typical relationship. Instead, she had to continually remind herself that she was playing a "character," whose purpose was to save Marika.
Without this mental distinction, she feared being overwhelmed by Marika’s kindness and losing sight of the "job" she believed she needed to do. She understood Marika's strong will, recognizing that Marika would be able to handle anything thrown her way. Therefore, she wasn't as worried about the buttons she'd push. Of course she had her hopes for what could blossom between them and noticed Marika's enjoyment very quickly. It was always a delicate balance for her.
