Surprisingly, I find myself thinking maybe the anime did a better job, simply because the manga this time felt a bit rushed. Still plenty good, anyway.

I was thinking the same thing lol. This anime/manga major split road on this chapter25 and Hitsugi's personality differs with that two knives bet compared to the anime.

Unfortunately the manga differs just enough that it would be best to read it from the beginning. On a good note though there is a lot more Yuri in the manga.
