^^You shouldn't really clean them at all. The wax both protects and cleans our ears itself- if you use crap like those cotton buds it just jams and compacts the wax down and causes a lot of problems- all ear doctors want them banned. I think they are in the UK - or at least they became very unpopular after health campaigning. The wooden Japanese versions look even more dodgy!
