^^You shouldn't really clean them at all. The wax both protects and cleans our ears itself- if you use crap like those cotton buds it just jams and compacts the wax down and causes a lot of problems- all ear doctors want them banned. I think they are in the UK - or at least they became very unpopular after health campaigning. The wooden Japanese versions look even more dodgy!
But the girls are as cute as always anyways!

^I understand there's some meaningful phenotypic differences in earwax composition - IIRC Europeans and derived have "wet" and East Asians "dry" type - that make it lot less of an issue there, though.

Cleaning out ears is necessary sometimes. Some people legit hear worse because of the wax. But that should usually be taken care of when you shower/bath already. The sticks are just extreme.

^^This. The best way to get rid of ear wax is with one of those rubber bulbs in the shower. Turning the head so the ear is facing downward and shooting warm water into it will clear it out very nicely.
