Forum › Convince MrEngenious! Question #1: Why should I stop uploading X (or keep it on)?
I was going to include Het in there, but I'll save that question for another time, using this one as a launching platform to see how it goes.
So, having finished uploading Kamikakushi stuff, which some of you have shown your dissatisfaction with a majority of his efforts, I wanted to get this out of the way before I continue on not only uploading more things (slowly) from others, but also editing for the marathon after my third midterm exam is over.
Key points before we begin:
- I'm assuming participants are 18+. It'll probably be very obvious when you're not 18+ and I will very likely ignore your comments unless they're intelligently written with a cohesive argument.
- This is not a democracy. I can, and will probably end up doing, ignore some posts because they're not worth anything. This includes posts like "I don't them on the reader." Great, I'm still going to do it because you haven't convinced me otherwise. None of you one voted me in, and I'm not being voted out.
- There's a tiered system in which I will take one's opinion more seriously than others. Other scanlators, uploaders, moderators (of which we currently have none because laziness) will have priority over most of you in getting me to get that stuff off or letting it stay on the reader. Regulars users (forums or IRC) might have something as well, but they also may not. It'll depend on the person and/or the argument they present, if any.
- I already know the opinions of the Dynasty staff, but they're likely to interject into the argument so it's probably not only going to me you're debating with.
- This is not a discussion on the extremes, like beastiality, scat, or guro (which are already not uploaded and won't be). However if these somehow play into enhancing your argument, go for it ( do not bother trying to argue a slippery slope ). My upload requirement lines were drawn rather arbitrarily, maybe this will help me straighten it out.
- This is not about the het stuff currently on. I'm pretty sure I removed most of the one's that aren't tagged "What the Fuck am I reading" because those are funny to me.
- We take no donations and we serve no ads. If you can't see why this is important for this and any other argument for changing the reader, you should probably not participate until you do understand.
Stuff we've heard:
I don't like X!
Then don't read them. We have tags for a reason.
Are you guys just trolling us?
Yes! Also, no; we know some people (certainly not everyone) will enjoy the non-pure stuff. There's constant nagging over trying to get us to reduce the potential content because it's not what they want on "their" reader. But nothing's really convinced me so far.
If people want to read that stuff, they can read it elsewhere!
You can ignore it and the others don't have to go elsewhere for it. I understand this sentiment more when it's pure het, but these things not so much since it's more of a preference/fetish thing.
Fuck you guys.
\o/
We've been having a mostly one-sided "it's our reader, whatevers" for a while now and I'd like to see if this sparks anything useful for the future.
So how about it? What would you prefer happen to stuff like futanari, tentacles, and lolicon? And why should I remove them rather than letting you simply ignore them? I'm not your babysitter.
Keep in mind that futanari works are not tagged with yuri. If you see something like that on the reader, notify us using the suggest a change option in the user options in the upper-right of all pages.
So, having finished uploading Kamikakushi stuff, which some of you have shown your dissatisfaction with a majority of his efforts
Who gives a fuck, really? If one person enjoys it, that's good enough... the rest can fuck off and ignore anything by that guy.
I do approve of the removal of het stuff just because that stuff is everywhere and I dont think this reader should become a "general purpose" reader... and also, because its not connected to what seems to be dynasty's (current) primary focus... Yuri. All the fetishes, all the other random shit can in most cases be tied back to it, but not het.
As for what else to keep or not... I say keep everything else. There can be absolutely no logical reason for anyone to say "don't include " other than an attempt by such a person to enforce their subjective morality or preferences on the rest of the readers.
GOD has spoken.
I don't think anyone would be able to come up with a good reason why to get something taken off the site, you've already stated the reasons. Mostly because its your reader, and that you tag things very well, so if anyone reads something they don't like, its their own dumb fault. The only reason you shouldn't upload what you want, is if you think no one will read it, and it will just a waste of time.
Well I was hoping that this topic would allow me to see arguments I haven't seen already, if there were any.
I don't like X!
Then don't read them. We have tags for a reason.
this is all it's needed to be said,
and i'm one of them that doesn't like somethings, like loli, watersport and, above all, futanari: i have a dick and i see it everyday, i don't need to see dicks in manga too,... and on girl (blasphemy!),
but i want to read all, i can't read only genres that i prefer
How about starting a system where, when someone complains about the contents of the reader, the entire site is immediately taken off-line for an hour.
I see nothing wrong with this. I'm also a bitch.
And though I may not be into penis' (ew), considering Dynasty gained its initial notoriety with a het manga, I have zero problem with the reader containing het. Just because things are available on other websites doesn't mean those websites have the scanalators permission nor the same quality standards with sizing as we do. We have tags for a reason. Maybe omnescient0 can make it so that people can blacklist certain tags??
A lot of the arguments I've heard over the years against het on Dynasty make it sound like a bunch of insecure young boys who don't like men in their manga because they feel inferior and threatened by their existence. A persons personal insecurities should never define what is uploaded or taken down. That's obviously not the case for all complaints against it. I've also heard numerous people identifying as female speaking against het because they wanted this to be a cock-free safe zone. Assuming the reader was yuri only was a misunderstanding on their part, so they shouldn't be offended that what they thought was true was wrong or expect Dynasty to change its uploads.
It's like assuming the tacos at Taco Bell only contain beef because that's all you see when you look at it, but then you read the official website description, "Discover the truth about the Taco Bell meat quality: our delicious, high quality recipe consists of 88% Ground Beef and 12% Signature Recipe."
Or assuming a taco was a taco, but then it took it's pants off, and ended up actually being a hotdog.
I'm gonna stop now.
Maybe omnescient0 can make it so that people can blacklist certain tags??
This is actually a good idea.
To get back on topic (yeah, I love going sidetracked), I'm gonnay say pretty much the same things as the people above.
I don't want Dynasty Reader to become juste another reader like every other, because for that I have batoto.net, which is awesome, and don't need a simple copy. I come here for yuri, and I like that I don't have to search for it when I arrive on the site. I look at the lastest released/added stuff, and I'm happy that it's yuri (mostly).
There are some things that I don't like. Be it genre (hentai-ish lolicon yuri...) or series (Happy jets, to name a recent one). But, hell wathever ! I don't read them, and I'm perfectly happy.
I don't mind. We already have a fair amount of non-yuri stuff on the reader. I'll just close my eyes and pretend to not see anything as always. We're a glee free zone, not a cock free one.

First of all, thank you for giving us the opportunity to give our opinions.
I would love if it if this site centers on yuri stuffs only BUT that's just what I would like, I dont really have any problem, whatever decision will you come up with. That's why I was hesitating whether i'll join this argument or not. Well..
Honestly, yuri brought me to your site. After, I discover your site, I go here everyday to check for yuri stuffs that's why I was very devastated when the site was down at the end of the year. And my happiness was immeasurable when the site's back.
Moving on..
you are right, ive been ignoring het stuffs whenever I see one posted with a het tag on it.. Tags are very useful =)
It's not like I hate het, I dont dislike it either as long as it's not hentai-ish and yep I dislike futanari.
So basically, I only read yuri/shoujo-ai stuffs coz I see it as pure love and shoujo stuffs like k-on, stuffs without guys around XD
So yeah i'd love it If you guys/gals will focus on yuri stuffs.. Though, I'll still love this site and the ppl behind this no matter what. =D
What's a pure love?
What is comes down to, I think, is what do you want to upload? It is technically your reader that you're allowing us to use for free, so the last word should be your say.
That said, I know I and a couple of my friends come on here to read yuri, as this is the only site I know of that has a free online reader system that has mostly yuri in the archives. (If there's another site like this, could someone tell me?) If you're going to upload things like het, tentacles, etc., it'd be nice to have a system to where we can have an "ignore these tags" option. If you want to upload stuff like that, go for it, but having a chance to ignore tags that people personally find undesirable would be a really nice function if possible. =)

If we aren't talking about het, there isn't much to discuss. If you don't like it, avoid the tag for it.
That said, pushing that philosophy implies you have a tag system capable in all cases of warning readers of content they don't want to see. If you don't, you need to improve it so it does that. I'm already very particular about what I search for, so I really can't attest to how good the tag system is at that.
I don't really care either way whether or not you guys put up futanari, or het, or loli, or whatever else has people up in arms. This is not MY personal reader, and avoiding the stuff I don't like is easily done cuz you guys have tags. It's really annoying when people complain about small portions of the content WHEN THE FUCKING READER DOESN'T HAVE TO EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE. Be grateful a reader like this exists, and just avoid the shit you don't like. Like when that guy who was all, "Oshikko Sensei is gross!! Why would you put something like this up here?!?" Annoying. And what the fuck makes your perception of right and wrong the correct one and the one that THE ENTIRE READERSHIP has to be subjected to?
Sorry... That complaint was long-winded. It felt good though.

Agree with this completely, altough i would say upload more controversial stuff like Oshikko Sensei. Despite it being an utter shit read that i don't really care about, the wave of raging comments it spawned still made it one of the more entertaining things of the month it was uploaded.
The only thing i would personally find annoying too see would be an Everybody is Futa!! kind of H-manga, unless it had some kind of tag to separate it from normal futa.
I would never be able to make an argument to get it completely removed from the reader, though I did have the impression when I first started frequenting Dynasty scans a few years ago that it was yuri only.
However, I do think it would be fair to be able to blacklist tags on an account, or to be able to use a search feature that can find specific tags (multiple if possible) while excluding others. That would be ideal.
Most of my issues were solved with the recently released page only seeming to show releases that excluded much of the discussed content, while recently added showed a different list. I'm not sure if this is just because of the distinction between released and added, but it was much easier to avoid content that I did not want to see that way.
As for me, I have no issue with het or hermaphrodite material on the reader. My issue was only with content clearly depicting children. I don't like that, yuri or otherwise. But if I could exclude NSFW Loli material, that would solve all my problems.
I don't care what other people enjoy. I just don't like accidentally stumbling on things that disgust me. The clearer tagging system has helped with that immensely, and being able to blacklist tags will allow all readers to continue reading what they want to read, and to use the search function more effectively. As Dynasty is acquiring more and more material, it's getting harder to find things. An updated search engine will make finding works easier in the future as well.
I think it would be interesting to take a poll and see how many readers come to Dynasty just for yuri, and how many are interested in other things.
I suppose if you introduced a blacklisting feature, you could upload whatever you want... but right now the argument that we can just ignore things we don't like isn't valid if it appears on the front page and because the reader is rather small.
For instance, just reading the tag "lolicon" feels unpleasant for me. I had a friend who was raped when she was 5. Every time I notice something remotely related to pedophilia, it reminds me of her. I feel kind of guilty, because I said things I regret today (I was an insensitive little kid). That's why I was so strongly opposed against Oshikko Sensei. And I'm not even a victim. Imagine you were, it would be like a kick in the face.
I don't mind if there's a little bit of hentai here and there, but please don't let the porn take control. You wouldn't be able to compete with a proper hentai site anyway.
On the contrary, you have the largest existing yuri reader. Not only that, you're ad free and even refuse to take donations. This is your strongest point, this is what makes you unique. No need to change that.
There remains the question why you'd even want to upload... more controversial stuff. Is it really worth the trouble?

In all honesty I don't like loli either for the same exact reasons you do. I have several friends who were molested as children, boys and girls, and the only reason I even know them is cuz I've got issues of my own when it comes to that subject. Even seeing the bullying tag makes me uncomfortable. Unfortunately not everyone on the planet will cater to your every sensitivity, as I'm sure you're aware. But when it comes to fictitious works like these... creative expression will be what it will. You just gotta grit your teeth and avoid it like fire.
But yeah. Blacklisting sounds kinda convenient.

Guess I'll truck on as usual with the uploads using my own discretion (and occasionally the IRC channel's help).
For the record, I don't think any het should have been removed, and there shouldn't be any stigma against adding any in the future.
There will be obviously less grounds to exclude het versus other fetish stuff in terms of objectionable content but I do have to say I appreciate the move away from het except for exceptionally good or amusing content. Particularly because, in comparison to the fetish tags (where you can just decide "do I like this fetish or not"), it takes more effort to evaluate whether a het series is worth reading or not I appreciate a stricter filter on the het content.
Basically, in the end I do even follow a number of het series, so it's not like I think it's all completely worthless or something. I am certainly okay with not having a blanket ban on het content. However, I do hope that Dynasty will strive to limit it in general to series which are at least marginally worth reading. Because there are more than enough 'omnivorous' manga hosts out there, and part of Dynasty's appeal for me is its more limited/stricter focus, which means I have to do a lot less filtering here than I have to do at other sites.
I've been coming to this reader for years now ( only recently signed up ) I read almost everything that you put on. Something's surprise me by how much I like them others I drop after a few pages, sometimes I'll go back and give them another go and enjoy them. Your judgement is rather good, the only thing that I've ever found truly offensive was oshikko sensei. I don't believe that pedophilia should ever be portrayed as acceptable. I didn't voice my opinion at the time because so many had already done so, but something's are just morally wrong and shouldn't be encouraged in any way shape or form.
And what the fuck makes your perception of right and wrong the correct one and the one that THE ENTIRE READERSHIP has to be subjected to?
Alright this is just becoming a circle jerk at this point. Anyone who comes up with something can find me on IRC or email me at altengenious@gmail.com.
