I was talking to my ex about sperm donors in Japan. She went to a famous Japanese university and was in the medical program. Med student sperm is super sought after because people assume babies from med students at a famous university are more geared towards success. I asked her if she'd ever get sperm from there and she said "FUCK no".

Most famous university's med students tend to be from well-off families. Families that are already rich and very proud of their family history. Families that set their children up for med school from a young age by giving them private tutors and sending them to top-rated private schools. Families that still sometimes plan arranged marriages (omiai) to keep the family name honorable. They would literally go berserk at the school if their kid donated sperm.

So apparently the med students that tend to donate are the really careless ones. Yes, they got into med school (somehow), but they are by no means good people. They look at sperm donation as quick money. They're guys that hide information from their families and often have bad relationships with them. They're the kinds of guys that flaunt their med student ID at bars to convince women to sleep with them. They're the kind of guys with no sense of responsibility or shame. And they tend to drop out of med school after a few years. But none of that information is made available to the people trying to conceive.

Morinaga to me has gotten better at things like composition and backgrounds. Her characters have gotten a little bit more personality, but they're still pretty flat considering she has multiple chapters to show them to the viewers. I know every story has already been told (that's why tvtropes exists!), but I get the same feeling with her as I do with Joss Whedon nowadays.

Joss Whedon was praised years back for many out of the box choices he made in his shows, but nowadays he's been getting more and more criticism for not growing and changing with the times. What he was praised for with Buffy 20 years ago no longer gets praise, and he seems completely baffled that what worked for him before no longer gets him the praise he used to.

Morinaga is similar. When A Sigh a Kiss and Cherry Blossom Pink came out, it was super popular. It was angsty, and it had a ~*YURI*~ misunderstanding, and it ended cute and fluffy. It came out in the early/mid 2000s and back then angst was THE THING. It came out just before the My HiME and Kannazuki no Miko animes. But as an author, Morinaga hasn't grown when it comes to the stories themselves. Her stories still follow the same tired tropes, and she hasn't branched out and shown us she's capable of anything different in her multiple chapter works. It's like we the viewers are stuck in a loop, and Morinaga can't change with the times and make a story that doesn't rely on the exact tropes she used in her previous famous works. I absolutely LOVED Girlfriends and think with a bit of tweaking story-wise it would have made a decent 12 episode anime around 2007, but now if they made it it would be too late because it's no longer innovative. Everything she's made since Girlfriends has really fallen flat because it's just the same story with different characters.

I'm not saying she should stop writing. But if she doesn't start branching out and exploring other yuri plot possibilities, she's never going to stand out from the vast swaths of yuri managaka competitors coming out today. Sure there will always be newbies to yuri who find her writing style cute, new, and relatable, but she's going to be relying on newbies her entire career at this rate and that's not a very sustainable fanbase to rely on. I'll glance at her new stuff that comes out, but I'm not going to get my hopes up anymore. I'm tired of waiting for something new.

No, my points are directed at Orestes and Anonko who seem to think that a story about teenagers coming out of the closet is somehow now automatically bad writing. The Morinaga should write about something else as if there was a shortage of fluff or drama filled adult stories. Apparently there is no shortage of coming out stories so Morinaga should just stop for whatever reason.

I'm not talking about this series in particular, I'm talking about Morinaga's writing as a whole lately. I didn't know there was a special thread just for Morinaga as an author, otherwise I'd have taken my comment there. I'll leave my thoughts about Morinaga as a mangaka there now.

This is plain bad writing. Other authors achieve more in a oneshot than Milk in a Series. I would understand if it was interesting or original but now that's just pulling her reputation around.

Now she just have to pull a "didn't take your confession seriously/some other bull", "I got a boyfriend because I'm normal too", "fast forward 10 years" or something like that. Another 12 chapters of nothing easy.

Yeah, this has played out in nearly all of her works (except like... the magical dildo one and MARE). I used to really look forward to her stuff, but I've finally gotten really bleh about her. She needs to get the fuck past the "omg I like girls but she doesn't like me back boo hoo angst angst angst lol it was a misunderstand SEX end" archetype. I want Morinaga to start a damn story where both characters are gay and know each other is gay and that would immediately cut half the unnecessary shit from her build up and make her think outside her tiny box.

Dear whoever worked on this: Please get a proofreader who will question the translator. Just because there are no spelling mistakes doesn't mean the translation is good.

[UPDATE: I figured it out eventually, but this is a BIT different with an iPhone. You CAN pay through iTunes, just don't ask me for specific details. Do the login stuff Meru suggested, get the app, open the app, make sure your age is right, search for the word "fox", click chapter 2 with the little lock on it, follow the steps to pay through iTunes and verify everything, DONE.

Stuff like this makes me appreciate Steam's belief that simplicity in buying is the best way to deter pirating, which is the opposite of what places like HBO are doing with... saaay... Game of Thrones.

The difference here is the only reason we know about this at all is because the target market (Koreans) reached out to the outside market (us) and are trying to share something that they like this us. The websites don't have a foreign language option because we aren't their target audience at the moment, and they probably don't have the resources to cater to us (yet). Sure it took some effort, but I'm really thankful for people who are helping me navigate through the website and are translating it.]

How about starting a system where, when someone complains about the contents of the reader, the entire site is immediately taken off-line for an hour.

And though I may not be into penis' (ew), considering Dynasty gained its initial notoriety with a het manga, I have zero problem with the reader containing het. Just because things are available on other websites doesn't mean those websites have the scanalators permission nor the same quality standards with sizing as we do. We have tags for a reason. Maybe omnescient0 can make it so that people can blacklist certain tags??

A lot of the arguments I've heard over the years against het on Dynasty make it sound like a bunch of insecure young boys who don't like men in their manga because they feel inferior and threatened by their existence. A persons personal insecurities should never define what is uploaded or taken down. That's obviously not the case for all complaints against it. I've also heard numerous people identifying as female speaking against het because they wanted this to be a cock-free safe zone. Assuming the reader was yuri only was a misunderstanding on their part, so they shouldn't be offended that what they thought was true was wrong or expect Dynasty to change its uploads.

It's like assuming the tacos at Taco Bell only contain beef because that's all you see when you look at it, but then you read the official website description, "Discover the truth about the Taco Bell meat quality: our delicious, high quality recipe consists of 88% Ground Beef and 12% Signature Recipe."

Or assuming a taco was a taco, but then it took it's pants off, and ended up actually being a hotdog.

I have formed a new (very small) scanlation group named "Fly by Yuri" and we would like to upload our first project to dynasty scans. At this time there are no plans for a web site. Would I need to upload it to media fire and submit an upload request? I could give you our groups email and details on the project on the request form. Or is there a better way?

I'm happy to see more Hiyori Otsu on the reader, but I think this release is unfinished. This is constructive well meaning critisism, I swear. Don't take it as a personal attack, I really am looking forward to more from your group if you have good enough taste to do Hiyori Otsu's work. The dialog doesn't sound like natural English, and either needs to be proofed more efficiently or re-translated and proofed again from the beginning. Also, the dialog in the word bubbles is way too big. It needs to be smaller and more centered in the bubbles. IT LITERALLY READS LIKE SOMEONE IS YELLING ALL THE TEXT! Mata, romaji no nihongo wo shiyo shinaide kudasai. *

• For you BAKA GAIJIN who don't understand the master language that is Japanese, that means "Also, don't use roman character Japanese."

When you use things like -chan -san and -sama you start sounding like Ai-san. These are only acceptable when they're necessary to understand the relationship between characters better (this is a one-shot, so I don't find them necessary in this case because they don't really reveal much about the girls' relationships), or if it's incorporated into their name and identity of a character (like Ritchan-san from Fruits Basket for example). The use of "Star-sama" and "baka" on the other hand isn't tasteful. You could use something like "all powerful stars" or something, and "idiot".

Punctuation isn't optional, a sentence within a bubble should never end without punctuation unless it continues in another bubble. Sound effects can be with or without punctuation.

Since you're a brand new group, this is a good learning experience and I'd be willing to help with proofing if you hop in the IRC again, so please do your best on a second draft,

Also, since only one chapter has been released, we don't know if any translator would be interested in it (we don't make it a habit to force people to translate manga they're not interested in). ALSO, we don't know the quality of your editing skills. If we just wanted stuff done this way, we would simply post all our translations online and have people edit with MSPaint.
