Some of her characters are like Shakespeare villains and some of her stories are about acting, but nothing in this story is even remotely related to Othello. No lies, no deception, no manipulation, no killing, no madness, no smiling villains.

Now her one shot Roundabout, Othello would've been a perfect title

Cute things like that is what keeps my brain running

This comes from a 21"year old man

No shame in that
Men are allowed to enjoy cute things too u_u
(guys in their late teens to early twenties or wtv are probs the main demographic of the CGDCT genre tbh)
At the anime convention of my city last month, there was a "Who Said That Line" contest and it was a guy who guessed Karen's quote from Kiniro Mosaic, and it was also a guy apparently, who spotted a line from Aoi Nagisa from Strawberry Panic.
I thought it was really cool tbh, and i feel a lil bad sometimes when I'm surprised that x ppl enjoy x anime, because anyone can enjoy anything really
tl;dr: Enjoy your moe dude

I'm guessing that Othello refers to the game rather than the play. The game uses black and white pieces so the title is probably referencing how one girl wears black and one white.

Actually, it refers to how everything seems to either be one extreme or the other for Toono. It even says so at the start of the first part. "Black and white. 0 and 1. Yes and no." One thing though, is that, to make it more obvious that's what the title refers to, I think it would be more appropriate to use "or" rather than "and".

Edit: Trolled by myself and my stupidity.

Is Othello (the game) popular in Japan? I've seen it referred to in a few different mangas.

Well, they did invent* the game, and its pretty consistently included in any list of the top 10 best selling board games of all time. But if you google "most popular japanese board games," it doesn't really come up, probably because its not really associated with Japan in popular culture.

With the new one (Nutmeg) by Otsu Hiyori out today, I'm rereading some of the older stuff... This one is one of the best! I really like the college age stories like this and "Maple Love", especially when they deal with one of the two who has to gradually come to realize how she feels. (Aqua Blue Cinema, though they are seniors in high school, is kind of the same, since one of them is already out in the working world really and the other is past the point of being a "school girl" and is preparing for entrance exams, and most of the story takes place over break when she is working as an assistant. Plus it is longer! Not quite the same, since I don't think she was ever clueless about her own feelings, just about the other girl's, and vice versa...)

Otsu Hiyori is one of the best around though!

Everytime I see Toono I just think of the gloomy girl from The Breakfast Club, her hair and clothes just remind me of her

Fantastic story. Kuuderes with short hair are the single greatest blessing in this world. Very cute, and a happy end. Good stuff.

Otsu Hiyori's my favorite. One of them at least. Favorite part about this one is how Toono smiles when she's sad and cries when she's happy. Relatable. And even better, Miku understands how she feels without needing much confirmation. Seamless chemistry. That plus how she doesn't sit around and mope without doing anything is great; she figures stuff out and then takes action, not being deterred by Toono's emotionlessness. I love how Otsu shows that deeper mutual understanding and care without ever explicitly saying it, and stays away from melodrama so naturally I didn't even realize why I liked it so much until thinking about it.

Yeah, it's totally the game. I read Othello the play just after the first time I read this, so the two stuck together in my mind. Plus, Otsu Hiyori tends to have those smiling villains the same way Shakespeare does.

Also, featured story helllllll yeah.

Lol how cruel, so no sexual attraction=cannot be a friendship? What kind of relationship is that lmao. But at the same time, I’m glad this story was written. There really are lesbians like this girl, one who is only seeking a sexual/dating partner. It’s quite realistic and risky. Otsu Hiyori is a master at writing quirky characters that feel like actual people.

Ikezawa Satomi did a manga called Othello. I've also heard of a yaoi with the same name. Volume 2 of the original edition of Aqua by Kozue Amano has an unrelated short story called "Othello Game."

dear God, you are the only one who knows how much I've read this. I'm tired yet not, because it's so enjoyable and sweet but I already see every single corner of it, so It's the time to dream of Othello 2... the same story but from Toono view.
