Hana in her PJs is like the cutest thing ever and I think it deserved an additional post to say it.

What page is that on?

Even a tiny hamster can fight for her Fu-chan. Fu-chan needs a fierce husband in a cruel world.

But then again "I know Koha's rack feels heavenly. Still haven't groped Fu-chan. But Fu-chan needs me! But Koha's breasts ..."

Poor Hana, she had no idea MMA was so confusing.

Well, she definitely needed that. Imagine how the fight would go if Hana never even took a real shot before lol.

Koharu took Hana's first time

The first time I got hit was absolutely terrible. It was a body shot and crumpled me right up. But the first time I got hit in the face was a whole different experience. And then the first time I got hit in the face multiple times was another whole new experience. So was the first time I got a seriously good kick in the legs. Even though it isn't possible to condition one's vital areas, having the experience of being hit can severely reduce the shock experienced by the body. Instead of tensing up one learns to relax and face the hit tactically. One learns to recover correctly, and immediately. One even gains experience on what kind of position they will recover in in MMA. Does one keep standing? Head movement? Body movement? Drop to guard? Clinch? Swing for the fences? MMA is an incredibly complex sport, and these sort of interactions can't be found in any other martial sport.

In a lot of "MMA gyms" I've been to, it seems that most MMA instructors truly believe that MMA has emerged as its own system. Whether MMA is MMA or actually an expression of individual styles in a comprehensive ruleset is a hotly debated topic. And it has real implications. For example, if MMA is a wholly independent system, then instructors would often train their new recruits almost equally in everything under the banner of MMA. The ultimate result is that the new recruits who are "jack of all trades but masters of none" get decimated by specialist fighters transitioning from another system. Because once the specialists take the fight to their own realm, the newly-minted "MMA fighter" has no chance to compete in that arena. Hence, Hana is being decimated by Koharu because Hana's striking is sub-par.

I don't like the results of this spar, because Hana should have had a clear gameplan against an opponent who is a vastly superior striker. Yet, Hana kept standing up and swinging. That's not smart. Hana should have been feinting jabs and shooting for takedowns. Falling into guard as a last resort, not forcing a stand up. Koharu as her senpai should have instructed her properly. But sure, just keep punching each other in the face I guess.

Given that her next opponent is a world-class striker, unless Hana gets some quality coaching, I'm not going to be too excited for the result. While advancing the hero's narrative is important, I don't like plot-armor.

This is, I think, the best chapter so far. The fear, the distress, I (almost) felt everything as she was, Koharu is downright frightening in serious mode; it also shown how much she respected Hana as an opponent, giving it her all. It's something I don't fully understand since I didn't have the chance to do a combat sport, but it's interesting to see two close people really hurting each other in respect.

I wonder if all those provocations the mma fighters are just for show (just like WWE) or if it's to put them in a certain state of mind. I don't think I'd have the right set of mind to really hit somebody I like.

@Hollows That's a problem when a fiction treats a subject that you know well. You start to see the shortcuts taken for the sake of the story, and the suspension of disbelief is hard to maintain. That said, I've seen this fight more as Koharu teaching Hana what it means to be hit rather than showing her tactics for the match; perhaps they did that afterwards or before. And your first paragraph actually shows how much Hana needed that lesson.

I'll again copy paste my comment from mangadex because I feel silly rephrasing what I think!

This is what I wanted to happen, a real fight before an official match... To overcome the fear, I'm glad Koha was the one to taught her that (Why is Hana blushing, maybe because Koha took "her first time" ? lol) now I don't really have doubts about a real fight, it comes down to determination and training now.
Funny how this manga has more blood than dragon ball super.

I hope the hamster wins. But win, lose or draw she has both wives front-row and center. Koharu Hana Fu-chan threesome would solve Hana's real problem. Or maybe Fu-chan gets Hana during the week and Koharu on weekends - after all Koharu is much busier. Also, just saying, Fu-chan is hot - I don't believe love of Fu-chan had nothing to do with it. #theyurihookupsarealwaystherealdrama

It's so weird, because Nina's Sudden Stinger attack is sometimes a jab and sometimes a cross. It isn't easy to follow because she always switches stances too. But that's probably the reason why Hana couldn't dodge Nina's attacks. Because Hana dodged Nina's slower cross variants of the move but could not dodge the faster jab variant. At least, I suspect this is the reason, and this is what is displayed by Nina's body position, but we'll have to wait for the author to say.

Everyone says the jab is underutilized in MMA, but that's because it's so hard to develop. The coordination needed to deliver a non-telegraphed and powerful jab is so high. But that's what makes it so devastating in a fight if one has a good jab.

The front kick is also a really underutilized move. It's a long range fast kick that comes from the blind angle right below one's center line. It's a really good knockout move with broad utility. But again it's hard to develop. I like any fighter with a good front kick, because it shows that they are a top-tier and exciting striker.

On the other hand, Hana got hit with a front kick from a closed stance, which really shows how green she is to striking. With a closed stance, much of the lead hand side is closed off from kicks due to the elbow, knees, and arms covering much of that side. To get hit by a front kick from a closed stance, one has to have really bad foot placement that opens up their center line.

I think MC will lose, but in compensation, Nina will lose huge in popularity and it'll be really bad PR for her. Like being caught bullying a small kid.

Or at least a draw.

If Nina was anything less than the Devil herself, I'd agree with you, but with the stakes being what they are...with Fu-chan's future kind of hanging in the balance...I think Hana kind of has to win. Might be a sort of "discovering her inner power" situation, even if that power is just a reserve of fighting spirit beyond what she thought she had.

Nina: After this fight I'll mess with Koharu too

Hana: NOW YOU FUCK'D UP! Turns into super hamster blue

Like that?

With any luck, the author will find a way to do it in a way which makes sense within the context of the story...

...but yeah, it's possible it could be something like that. :P

It wouldn't be terribly hard for the author to find a plausible way. Nina just has to underestimate Hana. Which is an easy task to accomplish coming from someone as arrogant and narcissistic as she is.
