Friendly reminder to watch the very subtext-y YOASOBI music video and read the After the Rain with You web story. (I know this is the Juliana version of the character and not Anna, but still!)
SciTwi and Sunset is great, though honestly the chemistry between original-flavor Twilight and Sunset in Rainbow Rocks is so ridiculously good it's still my fave!
My assumption is that the pink-haired girl might be a character that she's writing...? Maybe she puts her own feelings into her work as a way to get through to Saonji? I guess we will find out.
The swing-arm floor lamp dates it to the twentieth century, at least, the thong on the right to the 1920s or later, and the nylon stockings date it to post-1939. Honestly, it's probably a modern event with a Roaring Twenties theme, a la Skirt Club.
It seems to me that the mangaka is intentionally keeping Glasses Kid ambiguous as to whether he's going to be helpful or a creep, giving us bits of both to keep us uncertain. I'm hoping that when he figures the whole thing out, he'll help defend them and have a big hero moment warding off that stalker.
If Pokemon had never been localized before the 2010s, we probably would see them keep the Japanese names. But back in the 1990s when they were first coming out in the West, there wasn't a track record of successful animes, mangas, and games that kept the Japanese cultural elements intact.
I'm one of those people who hate male characters in yuri just in general, but I'm actually pretty okay with this one. He's not getting in the way (just the opposite, in fact) and there's nothing creepy or perverted about his involvement. We'll see where it goes, but I think it's really a good start.
But especially page 12 on, if we're looking for the specific romantic moment. It's the single best piece of manga I've ever read. Incredibly well-paced and the ending is a twist that still works perfectly with the rest of it. I tend to lean towards lighter, fluffier, less angsty one-shots, so something like this which can still carry a lot of weight without a lot of drama hits every button for me.
Mochi doesn't always do it for me (sometimes she does, but it's hit or miss), but I love, love, LOVE this one. Cute and vibrant and I wish there was more!
