That one's pretty typical for Japanese media anyway. Thinking about the Oddman 11 comment about sneezing - where "everyone" in manga always says this "someone must be thinking about me!" line while "nobody" actual does that irl - I suspect that this is kind of similar; just something that appears all the time in manga and therefore authors use it, whether it makes sense or not. ^^
