As someone who only watched the first episode of Valkyrie Drive, I thought that the title was using "drive" as in, you know, driving a car... so I was thinking, "Duh, of course you can't drive while you're having sex (unless you want to get into a car crash...)!" Then, I actually read it and I remembered what driving was.

I like Mira and I liked Valkyrie drive (well enough), so it goes without saying that I liked this.

Wow the art in this was amazing! Mira has really improved. I especially loved how gorgeous Mirei looked. I was pretty jealous of Mamori here.

I have never heard of Valkyrie Drive before, oh, an hour ago when I read this comic.

So now I have done my Due Geek Diligence and watched the first episode.

I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the premise. It appeals to my inner 15-year-old. And I feel weirdly guilty about that. Like, it's SO stupid and such obvious fan service, and yet there I am, digging it.

(Reminds me of Devadasy, which I have never seen, but have heard about. If you're unfamiliar, Devadasy is about giant mecha which are piloted by men, but powered by female orgasms. So the whole time the mechs are fighting, there's a woman inside climaxing over and over. And SURPRISE TWIST, the male and female protagonists are also brother and sister. And yes, she's the power supply for his mecha. At least, that's what I remember from reading the descriptions many years ago.)

Does not help that some of the character designs reach for the Queen's Blade level of gross, but that obviously goes down to personal tastes.

There was a great comic I saw once and have not been able to find since, which depicted various video game producers and designers given patently bogus after-the-fact rationalizations as to why their female characters had enormous tits and showed copious amounts of cleavage. The usual litany of "Well, the character is a..." type justifications.

The last panel was the guy who designed (IIRC) DOA, and his justification was simply "I like boobs".

There's liking boobs and liking giant things that vaguely resemble boobs. Not sure how they feel about actual boobs, really.

I'm with some other folks here, the character designs for VK were, in many cases, a huge turn-off for me so I didn't bother with the show. I do give them credit for a diversity of widely differing body types, though, prior to slapping weather balloons with nipples on them.
