Before I found this reader I was using another, that had a warning for this manga in ALL CAPS saying "BEWARE. IF YOU ARE A LOVER OF SWEET YURI, YOU WILL PROBABLY NOT LIKE THIS."
And I have avoided it ever since, no matter how much I wanna take a little peek into it.

I guess mangakas like to go batshit-crazy just to make something... lets say "different".

I am a Morinaga fan, so I read this a while back on another reader. That section shut my emotions down to zero (or I couldn't have read it).

Edit: No matter what her manga idea required, how did she manage to draw that part in the first place?!

This is 10 years old. This was long before Kisses and Girl Friends, when she was still doing mostly doujins and hentai. What happened is that she mellowed out and made enough of a name so she doesn't have to cater to the fetish of the week.

A lot of her older stuff was kind of hard core like this, and since she started getting published by the better magazines and anthologies, Morinaga Sensei's work has gotten a lot less hard core and a lot better. Maybe her more recent work is the kind of thing she wanted to do all along.

I think Mare may have been close to the last of that earlier type of material she did, and it was probably completed before she did "Even if We're not Friends."

Edit: I just checked. Chapters 1 to 9 came out in 1998 and 1999. Chapter 10 came out with the book in 2003.

I'm going to heed the warning of my fellow manga readers and avoid this series. Milk is one of my favorite authors, so I will keep my Kisses and Girl Friends image of her.

This was... wow. Her new stuff is so much better. Even without all of the unnecessary sex, the story was all over the place. I really couldn't follow what was going on. However, I do think the concept of the girl with demons was cool and I like how she became an unholy thing in the name of God. If Morinaga-sensei revisited this, she could take out the sex and all of the other unneeded stuff, and focus on the core concept. Then it would be a good story. She could also develep the girls' relationship and make it into a yuri decent story.

I agree with you guys. Many artists need to do things they don't want before they make it into the industry. A lot of actors start out as porn stars before they get actual acting roles. Morinaga-sensei was probably just doing what she had to before she could start making the yuri we love so much.

Once I find a manga title I really like, like "Girlfriends" I usually search for all other works from same author...so far it's been a good idea... now this...well I am happy she is doing what she actually likes to do now, although this demon witchcraft hentai thing was.. huh interesting...

I have to disagree with last poster though,what story on earth can have demons,and girls and not at least a tiny amount of sexy,it's all there around in mythology , but oh well, she better keep on writing Hana to hmm damn i'm bad with names...the new one with half time working girls,that one I'm liking.

This isn't that bad although it has some fucked up parts. I like the horror in it, it's nice and different. And all the characters are so nicely drawn. I love the art.

i read this if only because tsukiko looked like shiori from utena...
ill still read morinaga-sensei's other works tho. out of everything shes done it cant get worse than this ._.

Whoa, I'll definitely have to come back and read this. I was getting the feeling that a lot of MM's work had similar pace and plot, but this changed my mind.

I like the story, and I'm almost 100% sure this manga was inspired by 'Atlach Nacha' - a visual novel came out around 1999. Their storylines are really similar- both start with a demon girl killing bastard guys to save a girl from a horrific gang rape. Both of the demon girls seem only to kill men way worse than themselves. They also both have a huge final battle with their masters. And of course, both have yuri - they fall in love with the girl they saved at the beginning of the story.

I agree there are unnecessary sex scenes, but some are there for building up the tension. The first rape scene is especially necessary, as it kind of sets up Mea as an anti-hero and gives a reason for Tsukiko to fall for her. The only thing I want to complain is the character development - most victims are just random people who come out of nowhere and then disappear. It would be nice the author cuts down some of these characters or gives them more back-stories.

Oh, I also like the comic chapter, the one with Mea preparing for exams - you never know what kind of troubles demon girls have to face every day....

Read this a while ago, but I really like it. Would love to read more work like this by Morinaga. Horror + yuri is my perfect combo.
