Even a silly story like this, you can tell it is by Naoko Kodama. Now I guess the main protagonist will have to take care of the other girl for the rest of her life now,.

The rape is mentioned in the work but not shown. Additionally the person who did the rape (or at least assault, it isn't too clear what exact level of horrible sexual thing it is) isn't one of the two girls that are the main focus of this story (tho one of them is the victim of it, and her parent is neglectful/enabling about it, so...).

I disagree with the comments that this was shallow because I was actually really struck by Rinon's character. Her hatred of her mother leading to intense self-loathing which itself is projected into a combination of love and disgust for Mai is quite complex and imo really well done, and I especially appreciate how complicated her expression is when she ends up deciding not to jump. Mai's speech and love may have convinced her not to die right then and there, but she's clearly not "better," is still suicidally depressed, and none of her core problems have really been solved. This renders quite a bitter and melancholic cast to the seemingly happy ending, which I think is very interesting and memorable.

I'm surprised by how relieved I was that they didn't go through with it.

Also, Mai ends up clinging to Rinon without holding on to the railing? That was really risky but maybe that makes it harder to deny for Rinon that Mai wasn't just scared for herself, even though she had every reason to prioritize her own safety
