Yeah, this breaks my suspension of disbelief. You don't just walk out of dental surgery all put together and pretty. The protagonist can't be shown looking a little messed up even in such circumstances? Is the taboo against not constantly conforming to cisheteronormative beauty standards really that strong?

I hate to take issue with people insisting on realism, but when I had my wisdom teeth removed, all four, I looked basically normal right afterwards. My mouth hurt and I was careful what I ate for a few days . . . uhhh, less careful than I should have been . . . but mostly I was fine. Went to a restaurant and had steak fajitas three days later.
I probably wasn't going to be hitting any bars the same evening, but I LOOKED ok.

Lmao i think chinese are just built different in general. I was practically back to normal around 3 hours after my wisdom teeth removal.

When I was getting my wisdom teeth removed, my girlfriend told me to let her know when I was out and that everything was okay. I woke up after my surgery, still zonked out of my mind, and they were like "Hey everything went well!" and I went "great, can you hand me my phone please?" and I texted my girlfriend to let her know I was okay.

Later, I found out that I had, instead, sent her a message that just said "tooth".

I then spent the next 24 hours pretty much drinking my own blood as my mouth continued to bleed. So yea, I'm a little offended too lol

My bottom teeth wisdom teeth removal was a nightmare. Granted my first dentist wasn't that good and the second one was just bloody and swollen for a day or so.

All wisdom teeth were impacted but the upper ones were mild and so I left it for later.

BUT eventually I had both the upper ones removed at the same time and I could eat normally later that day. My then new dentist was so good I didn't feel any pain at all and I wasn't really swollen. I dunno about not being disheveled at all but it might just be possible lol
