...wait, office yakuza? As in someone in the office acting like a figurative gangster, or the actual yakuza being involved with their studio?

I'm hoping office yakuza is just a nickname for some jerks who think they run the place. Things would just get really weird otherwise.

The yakuza is weird in general. Like, the Japanese police have annual, semi-official events where they "lose" a bunch of documents they have on smaller crimes in exchange for the yakuza ratting out members they don't like. The whole Japanese approach to organized crime is bizarre.

I love a manga where characters can have worries about their relationships without turning every single little thing into a giant drama.

The US has fully official events like that called plea bargins. Not much different really, just the style of organization and formality of the process.
