Wonder if anyone else will come by after the recent controversy?

The author of Bad Girl was caught doing the same thing but I think he quietly unliked the offensive fan art and moved on. Meanwhile Hey is making it worse by doing damage control, which only amplifies the controversy.

What are they saying about it? I've heard of the issue and checked their Twitter but can't really get a good idea of things.

I don't suppose this is a good time to genuinely request a tag for when the manga author is a cishet guy? As a potential warning or a way to blacklist. You know, considering it happened before, multiple times apparently.

He's framing the issue from the freedom of expression angle, saying people are free to create whatever fan arts they want, and he doesn't want to suppress it. He's not incorrect, but that's missing the point: people are not upset because that piece of degrading fan art exists, but because the original creator interacted with it and helped spread it. This is a big no-no for romance authors so I'm surprised that he didn't get it.

Honestly, some of the way he and some (what I think are male) Japanese fans are discussing the series on Twitter also rubbed me the wrong way a bit. Multiple comments about how sexy this or that is, and such. Nothing wrong with that normally, but I do think about it when wondering what an author is getting out of their series. It can feel like the author isn't really considering that their characters are lesbians or bisexuals, but rather treats it as an extension of CGDCT (where their sexuality is secondary). Coupled with this Pixiv stuff, I don't feel that confident about it.

Yeah, the unfortunate implication is that some people just treat yuri as a fetish genre, and don't see anything wrong with that. What I hate the most is that I don't think he wouldn't dare do this if he was making a hetero manga.

I'm afraid I have no idea what anyone is talking about, or at least unable to gather enough detail that I can make a confident inferrence. Did HEY repost some R-18 het art of the Kamiina Botan characters or something?

Same boat and question.

It really sucks if the mangaka is creating the series from a fetish view point. Lots of people have been loving the anime, myself included, and if the mangaka just decided to out himself as a total creep that's really shitty. It also by association damages the rep of any other male Yuri creators and female Yaoi creators, which isn't great when I've seen some handle it sincerity.

He liked/bookmarked HET r-18 art of the characters on Pixiv and Chinese fans on Twitter were upset. There's some other accusations but, looking more into it, I'm not as confident about the validity of those. It's a bit up in the air and I'm not ready to crucify anyone. He clarified that the series is definitely GL after explaining that he likes any art of the series, from what I understand (but my feelings about the way the series is discussed is still the same). I was actually surprised to see most of the criticism was coming from the Chinese fans. Started reading some of it but my quota for daily twitter hours hit and I needed to be off that.

If I had a nickel for every yuri manga(ka) allegedly masstargeted on social media by chinese fans in 2026, I would have two. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.

Is the other one Takako Shimura?

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if she was targeted as well. I know english speaking twitter users were critical of her a few weeks back.
But no. I've read comments on twitter when the whole thing about the CPK manga adaptation blew up saying most of it was manufactured by chinese fans. Haven't followed it at all since then because there are so many better things to do than being enraged on the internet.

I have checked said bookmarks on Pixiv. It's exactly one piece of het fan-art and it's more likely HEY just bookmark every Botan fanarts, regardless of what is it. I mean they even bookmark one tagged Futa/NTR.

Okay. Thanks for clarifying.

As for the relevant topic, seems it's all clarified and settled as well. Hopefully that's it.

Kamiina Botan ep4 was so gay I just had to watch it twice. Really good.

That clears it up. The fan art is not rape, just regular NSFW het where she enjoys it. Since we do allow het series, I suggest uploading it here so that we can see more fan arts of the series like the author wanted.

Seriously, that reads like an apologist post, down from the misleading title. Regardless of whether some fans flamed it up, the author should have known better. Even if we take him at his words that he simply likes every single piece of fan art (I personally don't buy it), it was still very unprofessional of him to not consider how fan of the series would feel see it through his account. There are thousands of serializing artists active on social media, yuri or otherwise, but we don't hear about they liking R18 fan art of their characters engaging in sexual acts with faceless men. The idea is that people want to see those kinds of images can seek them out elsewhere, and by following the authors you're only exposed to their own art or fan art that are more or less in line with what you read.

Do I think the author needs to be cancelled or harassed in any way over this? Absolutely not. And the accusation about the series ending in het is just silly. But people are understandably upset because, again, they don't expect to see hentai art of a character bookmarked by the original creator. It's even egregious in this case because yuri has long been plagued by people (both artists and readers) who mainly treat it as a fetish genre. At best, this episode demonstrates a lapse of judgement from the author. At worst, a cavalier attitude toward his own series, his readers, and possibly the genre as a whole. Ask yourself if he would have done the same thing if he was writing a hetero romance instead.

That said, the "controversy" sounds utterly absurd to me. Attack of the purity police.

I suspect I saw the image in HEY's pixiv bookmarks having taken a look and it's such a strange thing to get upset about.

I don't blame anyone for being exhausted with art with dicks that are attached to nothing more than torsos or (to paraphrase a comment I saw) the faceless cishet homunculus, but I don't understand why people are taking it as a capital offense that the author of a work liked fanart that had either of those in it

So how much of a romance is Kamiina Botan? I’ve always passed on the series because alcohol isn’t my jam, but an aggressively flirty romantic arc certainly is. I might be willing to give it a shot if they actually get together.

People were running around claiming it was "dykebreaking" kink content and I guess a lot of people just took this at face value because he's a man and it sounds horrible enough that they don't really want to go looking for it to confirm. This then kickstarted a fresh cycle of all of the usual discourse related to kink and men writing sapphic romance.

Whole situation just seems like a group of dedicated haters manufacturing outrage to get the author cancelled if you ask me.

Combine this with the mangaka of "Go For It, Nakamura-Kun!" being bullied off social media earlier in the anime season, and it paints a picture.

Liking the art in this situation isn't great, though I think it's very possible that people would have found one reason or another to target the mangaka. To me it feels like the moment any media with gay, lesbian, trans, and related characters gets in the spotlight at all people find some reason to rip it and the creator to pieces. It's very fucked up.

What kind of offensive art did the creator of Bad Girl like? Can’t find any information on that, so I hope it’s not too bad but I guess it’ll be like this . I looked up the Nakamura thing and that one’s unfortunate for the mangaka. I’d say this situation is worse though, and this does gross me out quite a bit. I mean, I guess he can do whatever he wants, but I was already losing interest and this definitely doesn’t help. The story is confusing for no reason since it’s just jumping around way too much, and I definitely think it could’ve been better with a unique premise like this…
