They are also published as ebooks on Amazon jp. If you use a VPN you can buy them there, even with a foreign credit card.
I used to buy quite some Japanese ebooks when I wasn't living in Japan and had no problem doing so. Just once in a while, I had to use a VPN to be located in Japan.

note on this for anyone considering it: there's a limit on how many books you can buy this way. it used to be unlimited but they changed it a few years back, which is probably why you need the VPN. still very doable, although idk how picky amazon jp is with what VPN you use.

also worth looking into calibre and the plugins for it for amazon ebooks. you can put it into whatever format you like and not be beholden to kindle etc!

I’m not sure how accurate this is, but it would make sense considering what happened with Bato. Earlier today, I saw posts on Twitter and Reddit (I’ll share the source once I find it again :D ) claiming that MangaDex might be going corporate. Supposedly, this could mean introducing paid subscriptions and limiting access to licensed manga. I’ve already noticed that some chapters have been removed, with only the series descriptions left up, which seems to support that possibility.

^ Hell. If they did that, they're going to remove even more works than they already did (not only the DMCA-ed ones), to flatter payment processors.

Agreed. I’ve been noticing that many works, whether they’re popular or not, have had their English translations removed. Some other languages, like Spanish, have also been disappearing. I remember looking on Dex for a manga called Beageruta last year, and I believe it had an English translation back then, but now it’s gone. So yeah, there are definitely going to be a lot of changes if Dex unfortunately goes corporate. :\
