I discovered today a classmate from Highschool that i had no idea was into girls was a lesbian.
She said that at the time she had only recently figured she was into girls and had only told some of her families members and her closest friends. So it wasn't surprising if none of us had noticed.
For context, i came across her in town and she was doing some shopping with another girl from the same class, who more or less everyone observative enough knew -or at least suspected- was a lesbian (she wasn't screaming it everywhere, but she wasn't exactly subtle about it). (In my case, i did knew for sure since i did saw her coming out of the restroom stall that one time).
I didn't remember them particularly hanging out back in the days, so i asked if they were friends, they just told me they are a couple.
They explained that they met again by coincidence a couple years ago (after the end of the lockdowns) at a party through friends of friends and find themselves as they were now getting along super well, and started going out later. They were cute together
While the first girl (well, woman, now) looked mostly the same but more grown up. The second one have changed quite a bit and is less tomboyish. Wearing some light make-up and having her hair done instead of the mostly unkempt style she had in second year and dressing up more compared to the flannel shirt or jersey over plain t-shirt she used to wear. she style had a bit of a androgynous style, but more like the "cool handsome lady" anime characters :D. So i didn't imediately recognize her.
It just hit me I've been frequenting these forums for 5 years now (and the website itself probably a bit longer than that), and I dunno how to feel about that :P If I told myself a while back that reading romance stories (never mind yuri specifically) is how I will choose to spend some of my free time, I would probably be pretty surprised.
Anyway, I had fun here, and I hope that will continue :P
I think it's been a bit more than 10 years since I discovered Dynasty-scans. It was definitely in 2014, but I'm not sure what time of the year. early spring I think?
Wait, I do remember I stumbled upon the site through Miku x Luka doujins (even though I'm not too familiar with Vocaloid), notably Sekihara Umina's work (among other).

2024 has been a very bad year for me so I'm just wondering if everyone here is having a very good/amazing year.
Not good, worked my ass off just to earn some money to keep my therapy working. But no suprisingly bad things otherwise.
I'm gonna do my best to be more active on here, especially now that i'm having alot of depressing, dark day's lately. I hope I'm not a nuisance/bother to anyone here.
"You're not a bother" is probably what you want to hear, but as a matter of fact, it's unavoidable to bother someone or someone else during interactions. It's the nature of human interaction and it's fine, too! I too sometimes will become a bother to other people, but since I'm surrounded by kind and understanding people, we worked to solve conflicts together, and due to this, I want to be kind to others, when they're having a harsh time, too ( ´∀｀)
I'm also been going to a therapist lately to help with my mental health and I'm finally starting to have more positive/happy days now.

I dropped in right as you posted this! Dark Mermaid is amazing. Just know that it eventually deals with some very serious and real-world issues (despite having some fantasy elements), but it is lovely.

The Beast of Hadingley Hill (fantastic). I don't know if enough people know this is GL.
The Witch (also fantastic!). Some people didn't realize was GL until it was very obvious but that gray area period was funny to see in the comments.
Us Right Now. Awesome opening (5 or so chapter) short story about a couple at a crossroads, near to breaking up. Our MC has to figure things out before its late. Very emotional but then continued past the ending to show us how their relationship started. Gone on for nearly 100 chapters now.
Mermaid Huntress. Also has a series of good novels. Novels are complete--series is an adaption done by the author.
Slice of Life. Action hero anime character comes to life, and realizes she's very gay for the cheerleader she's staying with, a cheerleader who is also not yet comfortable with her sexuality. She gets accustomed to a new world. Very fun.
Isadora. Very sweet journey between two best friends who slowly figure out their feelings for one another. Has a calm and effortless pace. Very cozy.
The Greenhouse (fantastic). Has some amazing psychological work and I love the story. Main couple is amazingly endearing.
The Pirate and the Princess (A favorite). Best pirate/princess GL on the platform in my opinion.
Spellastra (Super underrated). Really fun magic series with multiple couples and great art. Can't say enough about this one. I was shocked it didn't have more views considering the effort and polish. Looks straight out of a comic book.
Vowrune (Love the couple). Really sweet series. Ambitious Knight and her assigned mage, who happens to be terrible (at first) but who is also cute.
Unnie, I Like You. Reincarnation, age gap (college student and professor). A new chance to fix an old mistake. Korean writer (if the name wasn't obvious). Really fun.
Dom & Mor. Interracial couple (Black and Asian). Amazing art. Absolutely fantastic series, dealing with the psychological traumas of both it's MCs. Some of the best work. Can't say enough about it. Everyone should read it.
A lot more but those are what come to mind for now.

Also, for SpellAstra, I agree with you, the story and art is really amazing. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that it doesn’t have at least a million readers. The romance is really sweet, and there’s a great representation of LGBTQ+ side characters too.

I don't know if this is a good/weird thing to say/ask. Whenever I go to a forum page, I'm always reading what others put very, very carefully and I always look for anything that might offend someone/break the rules. Is that normal for someone/anyone that isn't a moderator or is that just a very normal/weird thing to do? Also, I hope everyone is having a very good/great start to the new year.
A year ago I had not read any yuri manga, or generally much manga at all.
Then I had a shitty breakup. Actually, let’s back up. I had the end of a shitty relationship. I’ve always been sexually attracted to men and sexually and romantically attracted to women, so I was living with both a guy and a girl with nice words of commitment, and we’d been together for a few years. It was super clear in the last couple of years that the girl wasn’t attracted to me though and it was a sort of stepping stone for her to be monogamous with the guy… he wasn’t into that, and when she left she did a number of devastating things that left me (and the guy) feeling broken.
I was hurting. I’m caring, sharp, fit, and have a great career. What was wrong with my concept of lesbian love that I had accepted someone into a serious relationship who didn’t love me the way I wanted to be loved? Did I think so little of myself that I would accept an unfulfilling “love” just to not feel unattached and loveless?
I started reading huge amounts of yuri content, mostly on this site, to rebuild my sense of what I wanted in a relationship and to reframe my concept of WLW. Futaribeya really pissed me off. Arioto and Asumi-Chan helped me better come to terms with my ideas of sexuality and pressure to feel like a top (in retrospect lol wut?). A number of series (Octave, Still Sick, KitaKawa, Otherside Picnic) helped me with coming to terms with emotional and self-worth/stability issues. Oppai helped me think a lot about boobs.
I’ve been dating a new girlfriend for 7 months. She’s kind, smart, fit, cute, goth-y, into me in the way I wanted to be loved, and interesting to talk to. She’s generally more plugged into queer culture than I am. I don’t think I would have even understood what I was looking for in love without reading so much yuri manga, let alone be able to navigate a serious new relationship with patience and care.
Yuri content has also been mildly useful at work but that’s another story.
So thank you for this site and community and content for helping me rebuild my dating life, to regain a sense of romance, and to help me lead a more fulfilling life.

i recently discovered that i can read… if the text manages to hold my attention. A great many thanks to Story About Buying My Classmate Once A Week for helping me with that.
Since then I've also read If I could Mail You a Book which was especially… relatable… simply because the characters are closer to me in age than to my daughter. And Purely by Accident, which was just a whole load of fun.
Then i remembered that an (Internet) friend of mine had written a book, and thought maybe i should give that a read. So now I'm reading I Feed Her to the Beast and the Beast Is Me is fuckin beautiful I want to cry
(and if, like me from a year or two ago you also can't read, the audio book version sounds fantastic (terrifying))
