Someone once told me that a band's musical output remains good as long as there is personal and/or creative tension between members. By that metric, these two's music will stay phenomenal for decades.

What is it with Japanese rockers and the Red Hot Chili Peppers? If these girls are math rockers they should be listening to Polvo or Slint or something.

This really is a palette swap for Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games, only in that the competitive tension between the leads emerges naturally from the text of the story, and here it feels incredibly forced. There is absolutely no way for a guitarist in a duo or trio to wrest control of the flow of a song away from the drummer, who is there to act as the timekeeper and tempo regulator for the music. It kind of blows my mind that 15 years on K-ON is still somehow the manga / anime gold standard for more or less accurately depicting the intraband dynamics of a high school band, especially given how much time HTT spends doing anything but working on music.

Those screwtails are ridiculous and remind me more of Souryu's Machimaho (the magical girl parody where the a yankee is made a magical girl) than I Favor the Villainess or Marimite.

i read this with the voices from the main pair of Birdie Wing in my head. i feel like their interactions are similar too. got the airheaded 'i do this cuz i love it' one, and the 'straight-man comedic element, tomboyish' one.

Considering that one flashback panel in ch.1 showing their mess of a house (presumably from when her first husband died?), my guess is more that she's desperate. A "we can't mess this up so we'll never go back to rock bottom" kinda deal. Either way though, whether she actually loves the new guy or not remains to be seen ig~

So are they going to learn that violins can play more than boring classical (not that classical is necessarily boring, but something tells me that's exclusively the type of classical they've been given)? Also, I kind-of want to see the sisters reacting to an electric violin.

Wait a second, an orchestral ensemble is asking for a bassist? Are they looking for a base (not guitar) player or are they a very different type of orchestral ensemble than what I'm picturing?

Wow, super enjoying this so far! This feels like the kind of series that just does whatever is coolest/most visually interesting with the music-playing scenes, which appeals to me and others who have never really played an instrument, but it seems to be pissing off those who actually have band experience haha

Apparently RHCP tours in Japan a lot and has for years and their songs chart there. It’s a hike to get over there so bands that make the effort get the local reward. Cheap Trick had a good stretch there back in the day which you’d never guess either. Bands that tour well and make it a habit to include Japan get the reward.

Just saying... those musical illiterates (both characters and, maaaaybe, the mangaka) who say that the guitar is not "refined" nor "noble"; somebody should smash them over the head with the collected works of the maestro Joaquín Rodrigo, 1st Marquess of the Gardens of Aranjuez.
