It was also vandalized a couple of years ago.

I see they still haven't fixed the damage done to its face. Looks horrendous. Poor woman.

eeek i'm so glad we're getting sal's new work here (^∇^)ノ seems like it'll be kinda coming-of-age, how fun!

Completely unrelated but I love your pfp and your username, it's beautiful

Surely they're in garden they cannot leave unless they have sex.

I see I'm not the only one who thought exactly this!

Yes that is a real statue at the end there in Salem, Massachusetts that depicts actress Elizabeth Montgomery as her character Samantha Stephens from the 1960s sitcom Bewitched.
It was erected 20 years ago despite some local protests criticizing it for trivializing the tragic events of the Salem witch trials.
It was also vandalized a couple of years ago.

that's crazy

I didn't check the comments but am I the only one who feels like if you replaced the word witch by "queer" it could be some sort of story about how some people accept the word and reappropriate it to define themselves and to not be ashamed and those who want to move on from the slur and just be unbothered by labels and all that jazz
I don't know maybe I'm overthinking things
Maybe this isn't some sort of metaphor and I'm reading into it too much
But yeah, within my friend group lots of us reappropriate slurs that were aimed that queer people or disabled people (because they are queer or and disabled) so that the word doesn't hurt when it's used against them and also not feel ashamed anymore but some of them absolutely hate that which has caused friction inside our own little niche bubble of eccentric people
The counsil of witches Sabbath kind of add even more to my theory
Some people in the lgbt community think we should be loud and proud while some others prefer laying low
The counsil could represent the latter and the our protagonist witch the former
I like overthinking things
Hopefully I don't start a little kerfuffle because of my analysis but oh well

I don't know if it has to do much with "reclaiming slurs," especially given this is translated and not originally in English, but there's definitely room to interpret Hanako's hatred of being called "witch" as a matter of repression on a marginalized identity. But that's also the topic pretty directly of "Ayako Is In Love With Hiroko", so I wouldn't be surprised if Sal Jiang is branching out to a different kind of lesbian story this time.

Interesting, I never read this artist's other works.
I'll check it out!
But yeah, my little wannabe analysis is just something I thought up real quick
I maybe be overthinking things
And yeah I didn't really think about the fact it was not in english originally lmao
