OMFG who TF cares about arata and his school, why are we spending so much time in this. Why whould you put something as important as harumin future in the same arc as this nothing sandwich.

Same. He's alright but I don't care for him more than what could have been in his place.

Even if (in an extreme hypothetical case) we did care about Arata, the stakes of Yuzu’s angst aren’t even clear—so she doesn’t know if she should tell him about the potential merger of the two schools, which Mei thinks he already knows about but Yuzu knows he doesn’t (I think).

And . . . so what? What are the stakes for anybody of Yuzu telling him or not?

(Meanwhile, Yuzu’s bizarre talking-popsicle analogy doesn’t help one little bit.)

yes yuzu knows and mei doesn't. Wouldn't it have been logical for Yuzu to tell Mei about it, instead of going to Harumin to tell her? Yuzu: "MEI I think Arata doesn't know." It's as simple as that. I don't understand Because saboruota is giving so much prominence to a character like arata, when it has main characters without closing their arcs and others missing.

Story is focusing on nothing... and lead to nowhere... sad.
Harumin as character should deserve better in every way. Would be a better main char also.
Next ep should be about Harumin tells Yuzu, that she loves her. Just to stir up the boring years! ;] After this Harumin move abroad and start a new serie with Her as main . Thnx

I’m tempted to start a “Bring Back Shirapon!” movement—the story could use a little “organized crime” energy.

Or maybe that little Haru-Yuzu shipper . . .

Ideas about Shirapon organized crime:
Shirapon' mother or father is one of the owner of Akamine Academy, and they have different future visions.
Shirapon' mother also wants to buy Aihara Academy.
Mei's grandfather die suddenly but he signed a contract with Shirapon's parents on his dead bed. (Sadly this not works because he "was" on the wedding.)
Mei's grandfather blackmailed by her parents because of her low grades.
Grandfather is also part of the crime ring.
I can give Sabu endless ideas. :)

You’re hired!
How about: Shirapon’s family is a silent investor in Aihara Academy as part of a money-laundering scheme, and their new on-site overseer is . . . Rapey Sensei from OG Chapter 1.

Who thinks Arata is Mei’s new love interest and plans a revenge murder, but Yuzu overhears him plotting . . .

Finally something is happening :)
2 hired scriptwriter here.

Money-laundering in the academy is a good idea too. And logical.
The murder should be a car "accident". Arata hit by a car. The driver not stopped and passes through him. Nobody knows who was the driver including the readers. The assassination failed, Arata will be crippled for a life, put him in a wheelchair and can only drooling every day. No chance for recover.
While Matsuri tries out lollipop dr*gs because just, and getting addicted. She buys from Shirapon's lackeys.

Hear me out: Mei and Yuzu in “undercover investigator” catsuits (leather or latex?). Also Matsuri and Harumin . . .

Arata isn't even a character, he is just a plot device to explore Yuzu's motivations and insecurities.

I agree, as a reader I would also like more prominence of Harumin (and in my particular case) of Matsuri who plays a lot in the story, of Shirapon, of Sara and Nina, of Himeko but for To be fair, here the protagonists are Yuzu and Mei, but at this point it would still be wise to leave them "in the background" for a few chapters and give more prominence to the two secondary ones Main ones (harumin and matsuri) and bring back shirapon, Sara and Nina and change the focus of the story a little. Greetings

by the way and speaking of harumin, it is curious that after 16 volumes, no one can categorically affirm (and there are still conflicting debates) whether harumin liked it, or likes yuzu in a way Romantic or not. And that just shows that we haven't had any real character development in harumin

Oh, come on... For all of its faults, you can't accuse Citrus of having no character development for Harumin just because we have no confirmation or denial of her romantic feelings, as if that were the only real measure of development.

In the past it did seem like Saburouta probably had something in mind for Harumin's later development, perhaps in relation to Matsuri, but at this point I'm not convinced the author has anything methodical planned for anyone's development.

Not going to deny that, this has probably been the case ever since the original series descended into its repetitive drama spiral.

nor do we know that harumin has chosen for his future (even confirming saboruota in the afterword of vol5 that he had already chosen his path), nor do we know what he thinks about yuzu, nor is it understood Her "relationship" with Matsuri, who without being friends (confirmed by Harumin herself) spend a lot of time together. Come on, we really don't know what's on Harumin's mind. Harumin is One of my favorite characters, but I still don't understand her, and I think it's time that harumin (just like Matsuri, who has less and less relevance in the story) is given a little bit of attention.

Accurate statements in the form “I think it’s time that [issue, thread, or character that at one point seemed to be important to this story] is given a little bit of attention” have applied to this series for longer than I can remember.

I feel like I’d need to give Yuzu a damn NDA every time I told her something, if I were Mei lmao.

Yeahhh… irregular updates and unrelated storyline that’s dragging. This manga should either end completely or actually start focusing on better things. Such a shame.. since I really enjoyed citrus when it first came out
