^^yes, just to give one example I could quickly find. Used to be fairly common in the past too when pepper (as with other Far Eastern spices) was still an expensive and exotic import saved for special occasions. Although the "pepper" referenced in the traditional Nordic variety of gingerbread pepperkakor is the unrelated but similar-looking allspice - that one's Caribbean kin to the clove and myrtle.
