The D&D arcade games are 10/10 though and I highly recommend them to anyone fond of beat-em-ups.

I don't know about different versions, all I know is Dungeons & Dragons made me avoid RPGs for years. Until I discovered .hack//INFECTION & learned that an RPG doesn't have to bore you to tears.

So was D&D: Warriors of the Eternal Sun on the Sega Genesis. A game that wasn't so boring, but villainized Native People so we could be slaughtered by the White heroes.

I'd literally have to look up even the console... Sounds like 2nd ed era which is still 'fondly' remembered by greybeards for its retarded rule design - at least the digital adaptations didn't make you calculate That Which Is THAC0 by hand DX

Oh console's from like '88 and game's from '92. Yeah that's balls-old 2nd ed time. Meanwhile us PC Master Race had good shit like SSI's "Gold Box" series (88-92), the Eye of the Beholders (91-93) and the Dark Suns (93-94) - to name just some of the D&D based ones... ┐(ﾟ～ﾟ)┌

I haven't played any of the D&D arcade games, but I generally haven't been a fan of the pc games based on it, in part because of mechanical issues with 3.5 and how characters are built, in particular.

That said, if a bunch of people are really interested in playing non-D&D games, I might be up for playing or GMing, depending on what people want.
