This series started out almost completely "het" and headed for utter disaster. It's only when Tomoko was giving up her "plan" to become popular by fucking every boy in her high school that her life even had a chance of getting better. It's basically a rare example of a non-yuri becoming yuri (or at least heavy subtext and lots of overt yuri crushes (Asuka and Ucchi are unambiguous, Yuri is pretty obvious, and Nemo is likelier than not, as is her cousin).

^^ Classic reticent Yuri tbh. That girl makes Tomoko look gregarious and outgoing.

This is off-topic but I need to say it. From time to time I get a nostalgic feeling when reading the manga, especially when Yuri and Nemo give Tomoko “the look” right before they lash out at her in jealousy. Well, I’ve finally realized why; the art sometimes reminds me of Angel Densetsu, which happens to be another sweet story about a loner attaining close-knit relationships (mind you, the MC’s personality couldn’t be further from Tomoko’s). Anyway, sorry about the wall of text, but I really needed to get this off my chest.
