I'll reiterate, Silva hasn't gotten to meet her birth parents for ten years (she's 27 in GBF) due to a blockade around her home island. She puts this reunion off further just so she can prove she's strong enough to stand by Song before dragging her home to introduce her to both her Adoptive and Birth families

In seriousness, my guess is they were testing the waters since Nintendo is a bit backwards in that area.As much as I love a lot of Nintendo games, it's true. Look at their life simulator game where romances can only be opposite sex.
