I don't think Kouhai is a jerk at all. She's helpful and supportive of what Senpai loves doing, and just a little teasing. She wasn't rejecting Senpai on the last page, look at the kind smile and blush she has on her face as she says "Once you can catch and dribble properly..." It was her own way of saying yes, and Senpai clearly understood.

Meh. I guess I see it differently. There's value in brutal honesty, I guess, but in both this one and the original, it just always seemed to me like she's kicking somebody who's already down.

Yeah I don't know what you guys are crying about, the kouhai clearly wants to be a couple, she's just pushing her to be the best she can be. If you get rewarded for being a loser, it will be ingrained in your head that being a loser is just fine and that you never have to strive to better yourself. She is giving her a realistic goal for a very good reward, simple as that.
