Question: What was the thing that got you guys into Yuri?

Simplified, what got me into reading lots of Yuri manga was seeing Shoujo Sect, being disappointed as hell with it (especially the ending), looking for something more or less a romance, and finding Girl Friends (which really felt like something I could relate to). Oh the thrill for waiting for new chapters to be released. Then watching Saki, then finding Saki doujinshi, then finding Hanjuku Joshi, etc etc etc.

Jeez, this is all like back in 2008-2010. It all feels like such a blur now.

@Galich

One time, I changed my anti-depressents and it made me sleep so deeply that when I napped no one could wake me up and they were like??? is she dead??

Also, if you want to talk privately about what is causing your emotional turmoil I can give you my skype. Don't suffer in the dark and all.

Question: What was the thing that got you guys into Yuri?

My first yuri manga was Gokujou Drops, then I found Girl Friends and got into reading some of Morinaga Milk's other works like Mare; the Sono Hanabira OVA was released around this time I think, but I never really managed to find the games until 3 years ago.

Strangely, or maybe not, it was reading/watching yuri that made me realize that I am into girls (lol); as in, I find romance between girls to be a lot more pure and exciting in a way. It was also the Sono Hanabira games that allowed me to find my partner ^ o ^

Question: What was the thing that got you guys into Yuri?

Hmm.... The thing that got me into yuri was this thing called Meduka Meguca which was a parody of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and I watched one of the promo videos wherein they made the person who voiced Kyouko say: And on the third day, the lord said "I will be lesbian for you, you blue haired ."

And after that, I started reading KyoSaya doujins here, and met a friend who liked yuri that made me read a bunch of yuri manga and got me interested in it.

I prefer reading yuri instead of watching, because when I watch yuri, I just can't seem to handle it and end up getting flustered and weirded out. (^_^;)

heh, i had to really think about this question and i can honestly say, i don't remember anymore. i know i saw/read something, but now i don't remember what it was or when it happened. i think the first yuri anime i ever bought and watched was Revolutionary Girl Utena; otherwise, i have no clue.

a question i'd love to hear other people's answer to is if yuri is a hobby, an obsession or somewhere in-between?

@Z. Long - Cream Lemon is probably the closest thing I can think of....

wow, that is seriously old school. i've been able to watch some of the episodes. some of them are pretty good and some are downright goofy.

What got me into yuri was Girl Friends. Before that all I'd ever seen were those one chapter long porn doujins which didn't really catch my interest. It took me awhile after reading Girl Friends though before discovered there was more actually good yuri out there when I ended up coming across Lililicious' site then eventually ended up here (usually when searching for other chapters of a series Lililicious was doing since their site's search isn't all that useful in my experience) and found several other scanlators.

I've always been an avid reader myself so it's my preference too. My MAL anime list is minuscule compared to my manga list and that's taking into account that I rarely actually bother updating my manga list. I use MAL's anime list to actually keep track of what episode of a given series I'm currently on (because I'm likely to forget since I often don't watch more than a few in a row) whereas I tend to use MangaMeeya (when it's not busy crashing at least, lol) for reading manga and it has a bookmark function.

@ Z. Long

You wanna know what got me into yuri?

I'm gonna be really boring here ^^
Being gay did the trick for me ;)

When I was younger I was always looking for anything gay related – because there really wasn't much. And I didn't have free access to the web back then.
I got into watching anime and reading manga at some point and then I read about a manga called “Chirality” and I had to have it because it was about two girls! ^^ That was honestly the sole reason because I didn't like the author, Satoshi Urushihara, and the story also wasn't really to my liking. But that one was my first yuri manga and it still made me quite happy back then (^_-)
I still have it for nostalgia reasons...

@Alvis Well.. doesn't seem like the decreased doses of antidepressants have helped.

Cannot really say anything regarding your offer since I'm in two minds about it. Thanks for the concers tho!

Looks like I need to start practising what I preach when it comes to mood affecting meds. Not bothering with a doctor at this point but slowly changing the doses myself.

@On topic Probably some works from Deviantart since I used to browse that website made me go "hmm, that's a ship I could live with".. Then I discovered Lilicious and yuri-sm, and from that a straight road to Dynasty.

Well, if anyone is interested, I can go with a compromise and write here about one of the things that are bothering me.

Well, this message might be a bit chaotic, so bear with me.

Without getting into further details, around 2 weeks ago I came to a conclussion... discovered... well, I don't know the right term here.. that I'm in fact transgender.

While this itself doesn't seem like something big, with the rest of problems I'm sufering from it's piled up quite horribly. And right now I have exactly jacked squat of people that I could talk about it.

Well, decided to tell a few cis friends about that, first reaction was plain awful: calling it a fad, but my internet friend's still rolled (although roughtly) with it. Another internet friend was cool with it, and when I've told my best friend about it, he's told me that if I have anyone causing me trouble due to that, I should call him so he get his homies to beat up the troublemaker. And that came from a mouth of a person that consider himself a conservative.

The poor taste in my mouth is still left from the first talk tho. I have no bloody idea what I'm gonna do with this.

One thing is for certain, I'm no longer keeping it a one person secret since it's gonna murder me. I get beat up, humiliated, lose any friends - whatever, at this point I feel like being open about it is the only choice I can roll along with.

I see how ridiculous it is that I'm saying it so late to Dynasty out of all places, but oh well.

Just as a point of reference, I might end up removing this message in a few hours.

What can I say... First of all, congratulations for admitting that to yourself and coming out to your friends! That probably wasn't easy...
I'm all for it, l mean, look at my picture! ;) There's a rainbow there ^^ And it's there for a reason.
I can only imagine how hard this all must be for you.
Being gay isn't always easy. Being transgender is even harder.
So for now: Good luck with your family and friends. I hope they will support you, just like your best friend! And we're here for you as well whenever you want to talk about anything.

@Anon Good god, that message from you was a relief. I was really stressed out when for your reply. Kind of silly considering it's Dynasty, but oh well.

Thanks for the support! That's exactly what I was looking for. Well, it took an awful lot of sleep deprivation and desperation of all things. Funnily enough, the moment I realized I have no one to talk about those issues, I've decided to tell a few friends of mine about it. I guess I can be pretty radical once I'm in a corner without an exit.

Dunno what am I going to do with this entire transgender thing, feeling kind of comfortable with myself right now. I guess only the time will tell.

Well, I don't really care how easy or hard it is, I just need desperately need to make matters a bit easier, and outing myself makes things easier. Even if it's with minor stuff such as refering to self as "her".

Thanks for wishing me luck! Right now it's 3 people online from close friends and my best friend. Didn't loose any friends yet, everyone's decided to roll with it to a smaller or bigger degree.

Don't know how the parents thing is gonna look like. I mean, after all, I live with them and talk about those issues with friends at my house, so I guess I'm trying to indirectly give hints? It's kind of complicated.

So far I'm having my safe haven here on Dynasty. We'll see what future has in stores. And yes, that was the very reason I've wanted to leave Dynasty.

Well, it's not even the most urgent problem of mine, but the one that others can help me with the most.

My previous Dynasty post was my most tiring post to write ever, wow.

Guess that makes me queer as well.

Btw. @Blackkitty you telling me I'd make a good maid? You were pretty much right on the money :P

What? Did you expect me to criticize you? ;)
Me? Of all people? ^^
I'm a queer hippie zombie, I'm not one to criticize people for their gender or sexuality! (`・ω・´)

About that whole fad thing.
It's such a typical reaction for some people, unfortunately. That's just them being in denial.
My brother is the same. When I told him I was gay he was just like “Oh, please! You're gonna find the right guy.” A reaction like that is not really supportive but at the same time it doesn't bother me anymore because I found a few “right” guys by now. Some I probably would have fallen in love with if it weren't for me being gay. So that's how I know that he's just plain wrong.
Only you can know what's going on inside of you, who you are and how you wanna live your life.
So don't let it bother you. Easier said than done, I know, but still just try to focus on the good things, talk to the people who support you and don't let the rest get you down. That's the only way.

And take your time with your parents. That's probably the most difficult part...
But you're their child so maybe they already have a clue of what's going on with you...

if yuri is a hobby, an obsession or somewhere in-between?

For me it's definitely a hobby.
A really private one since I am gay so it's not just a fetish ^^
But definitely not an obsession.

@Anon Well.. it is kind of a irrational fear.. Well, good thing I'm queer as well. A queer cynic.

Well, the fad thing was pretty awful. Then again, the strongest argument I've heard in favour of me being trans is that "if you were cis, you wouldn't have these thoughts". Then again, that friend's settled on business as usual. Not sure if I'm 100% okay with that, but the old status was preserved.

Really sorry to hear about your coming out. Agreed on the fact only one self knows what they are inside of themselves.

Well, that's what I'm doing! Sticking so far only to people that know, we'll see how it goes. The problem is the fact that I've lost a friend who was the most tolerant of all due to an unrelated quarrel. But that doesn't matter here and now.

Well, I know that both of them are really supportive of LGB people.. but the "T" part is much worse. I was named after a gay uncle and both of my parents are for all LGB rights.. Worst case scenario I'll take my best friend with me for revealing the information.

Don't know if they have a clue. On one hand, my mother is able to see through me very well, but on another, she can be ridiculously oblivious at times.

@Blackkitty Thank you very much for the kind reaction! Well, I guess you can now brag that you know a pretty decent trans person (¬‿¬)

Looks like you have some serious detective skills here! :P Well, I've had people ask me if I were a homosexual, guess they were partly right.. Only one person but you had the right suspicions.

So am I really that obvious? :P Out of sheer curiosity, what tipped you off?

/hugs back

Thanks for the kind words everyone, it really means a world to me.

@Galich - Ignore the person that says it's a "fad", some people are too narrow minded. It's unfortunate how humanity has progressed though considering the greeks and other older civilizations are accepting of gay people and transgenders; even feudal Japan had stories of gay relationships in the samurai caste system.

On the positive side, at least you guys can come out ; - ;

@Rina Glad to hear that things are going well for you. Congratulations on the grade! Communication really is the key.

Well, very often it is that the most interesting parts of our lives are also one of the most difficult ones to live through.

Seems like avoiding narrow minded people is the way to go. Well, I come from one of the most conservative European countries, no legal same gender marriage or anything, you can get beaten up just for being gay. Well, that is an extreme example, but it happens.

Hoping the best for your next semester! You deserve some peace.

@Galich Thanks ^ o ^ and oh, that doesn't sound nice at all > o < kinda the same here tbh, same-gender relationship are considered a crime here, or at least, for guy x guy relationships, but I think things are slowly starting to change though, it's getting better.

And on another positive note, I got to sit relatively next to the girl I mentioned today ^ o ^ well, it was because her friends were sitting on the first 2 seats of the row and there was a empty chair between us...still, it was nice to be on cordial terms with her, even if we are not friends. The time that I knew her was definitely quite enjoyable though, to say the least; I mean, we never really talked much but at least we were on the same team and I managed to know more about her than before, plus there's just something about her that makes being around her more pleasant than others.

Hopefully things will go well for everyone in the group ^ - ^ (saying this always reminds me the ending of Girl Friends for some reason)

@Rina We don't have it as rough as to have same-gender relationships to be considered a crime, but we had at least one "normality parade" organised by the government as a response to the equality parade 10 years ago. Still, you have it much worse.

The younger generation of people being in their middle 20s is the most tolerant one, people in their late teens usually tend to be the ones actually beating up gay people. I remember that there's a website dedicated specifically to tracking gay/bi people so idiots can beat them up with ease, having all of their personal informations and all, like address, working place etc.

Meanwhile, the government insists that there is no problem with intolerance here. It's horrible. Well, to them there is no problem as long as they're not the ones getting beaten up.

Well, it's things like that that make us happy! I remember being so happy when I got to sit next to a girl I liked.

There's plenty of people that you just feel calm and comfortable around, they really are nice to stick around to.

I'm rooting for you! In fact, I'm rooting for everyone!

A really cynical page opener I guess.

@Rina Well, it was 10 years ago and that party lost the next votings.. only to be back in power now. It's more the government and young right wing fanatics that are so intolerant, most of the people are much more moderate. I'm just waiting till the currently ruling generation dies out so we can replace it.

On a positive side, I live in probably the most tolerant part of the country in a metropolitan area, so there's no problem here.

Iirc according to polls around 40% were for legal same-gender marriage, with 25% being for no and the rest being undecided. We're slowly heading in the right direction.

I ge'cha. That's what I meant actually, not in the romantic department but just liking someone in a purely platonic way. English can be horribly imprecise at time.

400 posts, CCL I am coming for you.

Ah Britain, a land where you £2,000,000 goes into policing freedom of speech over someone telling an MP to "get in the sea" and the MP whinging it was a death threat despite being not even close to a death threat and her colleague saying the literal same thing on twitter a couple of months back, and then the same party that MP is from can commit fraud on it's members, get away with it in part thanks to a judge who's made something to the tune of £500,000 off the party, force the ones who bought up the fraud in court to pay for legal damages, and then have the gall to say "now don't bully us back we know what you're like" to the party leader and his supporters.

And these aren't even the guys who made Boris fucking Johson the Foreign Secretary and Jeremy fucking Hunt the Health Secretary. I never thought I could miss dodgy fucking Dave and "Gideon" Osborne.

Worse still, at least neither of these parties are lead by a man who claims to be liberal but refused three times in an interview to say that being gay isn't a sin, or are just... UKIP.

Sorry for politics rant, I'm pretty pissed right now >_>

Congrats Galich :o

I get cagey about telling people when I like a book or band or something, I have no idea how you managed to tell any of your friends something like that xD

EDIT: 400 still a long way off me >:D
