Yeah she's lonely. They both are. This comic is like ctpsd, yuri version. It's common for people who grew up feeling like attention from other people is dangerous to feel safe at night; everyone is asleep, you get to walk around and take up physical space without being perceived.
Intimacy grows out of shared emotional experience. Two lonely people wandering the halls at night running into each other and being drawn to each other because they're feeling the same thing is honestly a fairly realistic setup.
But maybe I think that because I grew up abused and I had this exact tendency. Wandering around at night looking for intimacy because I was lonely and the night is the only time I felt safe. The first night I moved in with my first girlfriend I stayed up and wandered during the night like this, and she got up at 3 am and looked for me and dragged me to bed with her and it like permanently cured something in me, haven't done the night time wandering thing in 20 years.
