it's definitely the translation. i'm guessing the scanlator is inexperienced. kind of unfortunate because a lot of nuance gets lost that way

Based on Discord discussion, it's both. There's been quibbling with TL choices, but the TL also says the MC speaks really stiff and formal Japanese, and the translation was trying to convey that.

hi! I do not claim to be the best translator of all time, but this time I intentionally made Kotone stiff because she speaks in a very stiff manner in the original text. If you have specific suggestions I welcome them, though forums may not be the greatest place for that.

I do kinda like it. It feels a bit hopeful. I was wondering if it was gonna be a "oh you like me back? then my interest in you is gone" but it seems like the girl is realising that happiness comes from feelings being shared by both sides.

i looked at the sample on booth and the language isn't stiff at all. it's pretty much normal teen girl speech, with her even shortening things colloquially. it IS pretty vague/contextual at parts, and i assume this is what caused the confusion. would be happy to discuss it over discord if that works for you?
