Am I the only one who gets surprised when someone on the forums casually mentions that they're a dude? Sometimes I forget that straight people are a thing.
I'm a dude, hi.
we figured that out already, but hi.

Actually, you're one of the folks I was thinking of when I said that. Congratulations, you're inspirational!

Hello dude! o/
I sincerely hope this has a sequel. (If someone mentioned it does in the comments, my apologies for missing it) but it really needs one.
Is it rare for a guy to be a yuri fan? I love yuri romance more than any genre there is. I've read probably every single thing on this site with a romance tag :) Childhood friends/romance is probably my fav combo though, lol
I don't think so.. I think it's pretty rare for a straight guy to like yaoi, or a straight girl to like yuri though, or at least it seems like it would be.

I doubt it, at least as far as yuri porn goes. Guys seem to love two girls together and there are a few on here that are pretty clearly done with guys in mind (especially the gaping vagina stuff), usually by male artists.
And then there's Asagi Ryuu's stuff, I'm not sure who he's aiming his stuff at.
Isn't love between two girl is way more harder? And they still can be together. I think it's just that Suzu's love doesn't have enough for Chimi, and I even don't think it enough to call something like that is love, she don't even try a little to fight back
There's an implication, although pretty subtle, in the fact that although Eri's engagement was decided "a long time ago" and yet she stayed with Chimi as long as she could, that she has been fighting it up until now, but finally gave in. If she hadn't been, her and Chimi wouldn't have been together at all.
"Eri's engagement was decided "a long time ", but in that time she can still be free. You have engagement doesn't mean you have to be take it serious with you when you was young, and she can hide if she want. It doesn't have anything sure like you said. When Chimi said about Eri's engagement, she doesn't said anything about Eri has been fighting it up or not, if yes, i can't see why Chimi didn't metion something important like that, she just said about "choice" and "decision". I can just think that Eri gave up in Chimi because her family told her that it's time to take the engagement seriously.

I like some of his stuff... but I don't like any of the sex-moments he makes...

Well, for straight girls... I'd say that the cute factor makes it more accessible, compared to yaoi for straight dudes.
Is it rare for a guy to be a yuri fan?
Well... The biggest exposure of yuri a guy usually gets is anime and hentai, but there are problems with this...
Anime, the most recognizable yuri romances are just too vague... or... not very good (don't crucify me). Other yuri elements are there for the sake of comedy or fanservice, which usually does not create any desire for more of it, it is just a treat, eye candy.
Hentai (animated), most guys tend to insert (no pun intended) themselves into the situation, where in yuri they cannot (Personally I cannot do this even with guy x girl stuff). Also, as someone who likes love-filled cute hentai (e.g. the Sono Hanabira OVA for yuri), I can say that yuri elements in hentai are HORRIBLE, I looked way too far into it to accept this...
Guys like the little yuri they get, but just as a treat, not enough to make them fans of it.
My interest was sparked by the Sasameki Koto anime, I looked around for suggestions and watched (tried to watch) the most popular yuri (and shoujo ai). Also read the most recommended mangas Girl Friends (and other stuff by Moringa) + Sasameki Koto, nothing really gripped me.
Then I stumbled upon the anime: Kanamemo while looking for comedies, i know the anime is terrible and not so well known... but I am fond of it (the manga is great tho). There is where I found exactly what I love the most, a serious (already together) and really cute lesbian couple who had a good amount of screen time, I loved it. Yume x Yuuki made me a yuri fan.
I looked for the manga and found it on this site, where I noticed that most of the stuff is yuri.

And here I am today... Re-reading loads of yuri mangas cuz I have way too much free time.
(I might have drifted away of the topic a bit in my rambling)

Meanwhile i got introduced to the genre because of mechas... Damn you Kannazuki no Miko!

so i just read the page of the anime................sounds like male fanservice, especially considering one of the MC's RAPES the other MC

Not nearly as male fanservice as the author's other work, Zettai Shoujo Seiiki Amnesian, that one is just a piece of bad work but Kannazuki no Miko has it's moments... ...Plus it has mechas beating the shit out of eachother, i don't care if that's male pandering, i just love some robots
But regardless it did spark me an interest in the genre (i was 14 and was pretty sheltered so i didn't think much about this stuff), then i tried watching Yami To Boushi To Hon no Tabibito and even to this day i'm yet to finish that thing, Jesus!

It was my first anime not manga, i don't like the manga very much actually, far too short and things doesn't develop well, plus the anime has automatic positive points for having the dude being over the top just like a Super Robot show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAUn0ytuqfs
But well it has been indeed quite some time since i watched it, so take that as you will
And Shadow The Hedgehog is alright, the Reach The Goal missions are fine

raises hands Guy here. Well, this thread was certainly surprising to read.
Not sure how far out from normal I'm getting down here, but my favourite yuri stories are Aoi Hana (the anime as my first entry into genre) and Chatting at the Amber Teahouse. Especially, Teahouse. With Candy Boy as a close runner up.
-> which is sort of strange, but even the Sono Hanabira games are kinda not very interesting. They just "devolve into an orgy of lust" (got that description of the Hanabira games from somewhere) a bit too fast. If I want porn, there are better places to get it. Never finished any but the first.
That said, there's a ton of slice of life anime with subtext or outright yuri relationships and those series I thought would be aimed at guys (due to the cute girls effect). So I had had the impression that yuri was mainly a guys thing (in the same way that yaoi is mainly a girls thing - or maybe I'm wrong).
And then I came across the Sono Hanabira translators (the ones doing the games) and they're a yuri couple! And then I proceeded to go back to not meeting girls on the internet (except, strangely enough, AnimeOSTs) until this thread...
So... eyeopener I guess. There's alot more yuri out there than I expected then. blinks Or perhaps it's just the filtering effect of the internet where you meet everyone from everywhere who shares the same interest and of course yuri couples in the real world would be interested in yuri stories. Never did quite think of that.
Perhaps I have overestimated the baseline male interest in yuri stories... =/ looks at expectation values and wonders how to recalibrate
To be fair, an awful lot of the geeky lesbians I have known were into yaoi mainly and even watch gay porn on a regular basis. Never was able to figure that out.

Well, my neighbour, who's a straight guy, is kinda obsessed with Gravitation and Loveless, claiming that the characters are so effeminate you can easily imagine them as being girls... So yeah... There's a bunch of people out there i guess
If you all worried there is not continuation of this no worries, I will talk to momoto about it :) I know her she is a good friend of mine had a long time I have not spoken to her. She is a wonderful women, I admire her cause she is actually one of the few who has actually accept me for being a lesbian her website http://momonomoto.net/ please do purchase her comics they are not that expensive and they are real adorable if you know japanese. Her twitter page:https://twitter.com/momono_moto?original_referer=http%3A%2F%2Fmomonomoto.net%2F&profile_id=14695548&tw_i=461448602775089153&tw_p=embeddedtimeline&tw_w=273382328561172480. I'm a fan.
I think it doesn't matter what someone likes or who is the person in question but I do find interesting the preconceptions around this genres. As a mexican male, Yuri was seen between my male friends as 'quick and easy' porn with the added bonus of not having naked guys to look at, female friends thought it was gross (amusingly, some of them were big Yaoi fans) but they were fine with it on small doses. Older people looked it as an abomination and sort of a gateway to homosexuality (?), very few are aware of the genre being as diverse and valuable as any romance story, the only difference is that the characters are women (I assume the same could be said about yaoi but I've never read any)

I've always liked Anime (mainly shojo), and reading (mainly fantasy books). But I never read manga. Not sure why. One day I somehow discovered Fruits Basket the anime. I watched it, despised how it ended. Found out online it continues in the manga, so I started reading manga. From that I read and watched tons of things (ouran, school rumble, etc...) and loved them all. When looking for something new at one point Girlfriends was a recommendation. I'm not gonna lie, a romance about 2 girls seemed very interesting. So I read the first chapter. Next thing I know I'm reading the last chapter and then everything else by morinaga. Then I found Sasameki Koto, read and watched it. Then I found a huge list of mangas all yuri. I started reading through all of those, noticing most of them were linked here. And here I am... :) lol

I'm going to go read this tonight. I haven't ever. I came in late to most of this sadly so there are a lot of 'older' ones I am missing. And a lot of licensed ones I know nothing about.

Do you have a monacle? You should have a monacle.
Older people looked it as an abomination and sort of a gateway to homosexuality (?)
This is the kind of thing that makes me think:
When we (generalizing) get old/our time passes, what ways of thinking of ours will be considered full-on ignorant stupidity for future generations?...
