You had to google 10th grade? I thought you could just count to 10 and kinda figure out where they're at.

Also the American thing to say is "freshman". Honestly I really thought 10th grade is pretty international friendly.

Canadians say 10th grade. I've never heard anyone outside saying stuff like "freshman", "sophomore", etc. outside of media from the US though. Even in university, I've only seen "frosh" used first-hand to refer to the first couple weeks of a new student. Maybe it's more common in fraternities/sororities since I was never a member, but among student bodies it's very rare.

TBH I guess I don't know how many countries outside US use it, I assumed it wasn't really international but you know the thing about assumptions :) - we certainly don't here in the UK- like in japan we say 1st 2nd and 3rd year of middle or high school.

Well, it's a really simple system but in my country (france), we are not used to it. Those who paid a minimum attention to english classes can find our equivalent for 10th grade pretty fast after some thinking, but it's true that first year of high school is smoother for us.

Not that I mind seing the grade system in manga, that's not really important. And it's in english, I've never really expected what I read here to be adapted to non english speaker.

We say tenth grade in Australia too. And to be honest, I've seen this swapping over of 1年生, 2年生 etc. to 10th, 11th, etc. grade in other works, too. I'm somewhat surprised to see people having trouble understanding it.

In Canada we also start highschool in 9th grade

Speak for yourself. On the east coast at least, it's Junior High from 7-9, and Senior High from 10-12. It varies a lot.

Aw the art is cute (By the way, Outer Science and essentially any Jin IA song are the best.)
