This story is really good.
I'm looking forward to it.

It's been so long since I've read a good yuri manga.

Going back to the pen pal world, and I'm surprised to know that MC doesn't like the idea to meet an online friend, and even thought of stopped talking to them about it.

I read page 1 and thought “man someone should write a yuri story where they’re anonymous pen pals and they exchange letters through some weird way like leaving them somewhere, like some message-in-a-bottle-type shit, but then surprise twist there’s time travel involved and they’re actually separated by 100 years! That would be cool, too bad this manga won’t be that.” Then I saw the letter fall out of the 100 year old book and I was like “wait” and then the author of the letter used some awkward wording to refer to the time period in which the book was written that seemed to be deliberately avoiding implying whether the writer considered it to be the past or the present and I was like “hm” and then there was the scene where the MC’s friend complains about “not knowing the future” while otherwise being irrelevant to the pen-pal plot and I was like “hm!” and then the author straight up made the message-in-a-bottle comparison directly, complete with illustration, and I was like “I see”

And then I finished chapter 2 and I was like “oh.”

…but what if?

Kasumi is a fun protagonist. Her monologue shows a lot of personalities.

On the chance you're not already familiar with it, you should check out This Is How You Lose The Time War.

well, there's several good yuri mangas being published right now or at least uploaded here but I'll give you this one has got one of the strongest starts I've seen in recent times. It's got all, mystery, originality, great dialogue, great characters, it's funny, it's deep, it's dramatic. I love it so far, I'm in love I really can't lie

I saw them praising several other ongoing Yuri manga today, so I think they might just be saying things lol

This storyline has been used quite awhile now-- about how one accidentally became pen pal to another but they are unaware that they are from different times, mostly het love stories.

The one I remember the most is from "Tales from the Unusual" and starred by Morikita Maki san.

Oh but there's English version too.
The Lake House by Keanu Reeves.

I'm trying to think if such premise storyline has been used by yuri mangas.
The only ones that have exchange words are scribbles from the table and both of them are in the same timeline--
Furutsuji Kikka sensei's Graffiti.

Uh oh I really hope onee-sama doesn't get disillusioned/discouraged to write more because she now knows kasumis identity. I feel like half of the motivation for both of them was the yearning and mystery of it all. But her silhouette alone is giving me big Erika vibes, not to mention the hiking and implication of a rich family. Really loving this story so far!!!

There we go, one of them has now, half by accident, seen who the other is. ^_^

Of course, Kasumi, you could just take pictures of the letters you write. Or receive. I mean, this is the modern era after all.

I miss this kind of writing in yuri manga, romantic and eventful, with just the right emotional depth. ^_^

I'm predicting the pretend Older Sister is actually the real older sister of the friend that was mentioned this chapter, and waffled between wanting to talk with Kasumi after recognizing her and not wanting to reopen the wound, and ultimately got cold feet here.

Damn onee-sama, you better have a good reason.

That is..one hell of a way to end a chapter. I assume she means their pen relationship, but after we mentioned the friend that commited suicide, that is concerning...

You can almost see the moment her heart broke. This is masterwork from the artist, portraying all these up and down in an adolescent mind. One might think Kasumi is overly dramatic over being stood up, but she has deep-seated issues that the disappointment and hurt brought to the surface. She really poured her heart out in those letters and to this unknown, faceless oneesama. Is the whole thing a prank? Did oneesama just toy with her? Am I such a pathetic person? I can imagine these thoughts going through her head the whole time she sat there alone.

That's an interesting theory

You also have to wonder what kinds of pressure the Onee-Sama is going through. We've seen Kasumi craft assumptions and an idea of who she is in her mind, and I can't imagine Onee-Sama is also worried about living up to expectations, and additionally now the guilt of having stood her "younger sister" up. I think from the outside it's obvious how much work she's put into this relationship, but it feels like oftentimes we underestimate how much our efforts even impact the other people in our lives.

Very juicy stuff.
