I... don't understand what the author was thinking, honestly. The author is into pair A and the artist is into pair B, if you commission an artist to create your cover, shouldn't you at least told the artist "yes I know you're into pair B but please draw art of pair A for me"? (Though the artist didn't ask, either, so 50/50 responsibility) Or did she received pair B's art for her pair A doujin and realized she didn't told the artist she need art of pair A, but "fuck it, whatever"? Wouldn't that confuse the readers?
For the sake of argument, imagine receiving a doujinshi that has cover of Kyouko and Yui having a good time (wink) but the doujinshi is all about Ayano x Kyouko. Even if I'm not against either of the pairings I'd be shocked.
(Of course, fanning Internet bullying is unacceptable, either way. But also, in most cases I've witnessed it's always the Internet celebrities trying to pacify the angry fans, because being famed for "Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war" isn't what many celebrities wanted, either.)
