Eh I don't think they all need to be scum bags. Plus I think the MC being THE titular scumbag is the core point lol

I think it works because in my view a recurring part of the story is that our MC (and her girlfriend) is actually not that bad. These truly scummy people might help remind readers of that and make it easier to root for our scumbags. The contrast seems useful. A few characters come to mind for this (that dude, the mom, the other crazy ass friend). Plus it'll definitely result in some comedy. I can see this brand of scumbag not being someone's cup of tea, though. There's a type for everyone.
