Regarding this discussion, I lived in Japan for quite a while and in my observation both men and women consume yuri content but the types of yuri they consume tend to vary.

Men usually being more into, maybe contrary to expectations??? stuff that is much more moe oriented fluff and class S type stuff (or, yes, smut, but those are two different demographics of male fans!). A lot of the yuri and yuri adjacent series liked by men were more of the 4koma type comedy cute girls doing cute things vibe like Yuru Yuri, or series like Madoka with yuri undertones but not so much explicit romance content. In general cute stuff with cute girls they can ship with each other, it's tied with moe culture. Yuri is seen as more pure and lets them play with romance tropes without ruining the cgdct atmosphere with male characters. See also, idols are allowed to yuribait and flirt with each other all they want and the fans love it, but god forbid any of them talks to a man or gets a boyfriend.

On the other hand, more romance oriented series and dramas are primarily consumed by women, which isn't really a surprise right? Given that romance in general tends to be a very stereotypically female-oriented genre to begin with. Especially one about queer women with no male PoV character. Yuri stems from shoujo after all. Also, you can just tell usually when reading a manga right, when it's being written by a woman for women, it just has a vibe. Like I could imagine someone ignorantly looking at Asumi-chan and assuming it's meant for men based on the premise but when you read it it's just so clearly girlcoded in an unquantifiable way

When it comes to polls I think you have to really contextualize the conclusions you draw from them. Like we have to take into account sampling bias and also which yuri are being read by who. Depending on which specific type of yuri you're looking at the results are probably all over the board. Like I suspect there's a similar effect happening to the "women are the majority of gamers" polls, where it might be true but a lot of those women are mostly just playing mobile games and 400 hours of Animal Crossing, while when you look at the more 'hardcore' gamers as we traditionally imagine the idea, it skews male instead. And when it comes to online polls, I imagine they skew more male than the average too just because users on manga websites in general probably skew more male than the average.

I legitimately think that an ark of asumi developing feelings for nanao would be so god-send and then an ark where she fulfils the promise with Mai and then she starts developing feelings with her too and then she has to choose one of them and then she goes : BOTH ! , and then an intercourse where nanao and mai both become acquainted with each other and that triangle would be the best ending ever

I would absolutely die if Nanao starts going to that delivery health site to try and learn how to be a good fwb, hires Mai, and then falls for her. And then at some point brings Asumi with her to see Mai. It would be godlike. I need the poly route to happen we have such a dearth of good poly yuri and it's one of my absolute favorite tropes

Oh my god I absolutely love this development, Itsuki Kuro is seriously the queen of yuri. I have never seen this kind of plot development handled so well. Given that this series is basically a classic harem, usually at this point it goes back to another 20 chapters of frustrating status quo but she managed to thread the line where progress is made, the girl people are rooting for isn't hurt, and the dynamic is changed in such an endearing way. I was worried the story would pivot to just a monogamous romance with Nanao as the love interest which is cute but loses what makes this series special but she was able to make both Nanao fans and poly fans happy. I am daring to believe in the poly ending. And its so so rare to find a friends with benefits storyline that's so wholesome and sweet, I think this is cuter than if they got together, I love this so much. Now my ultimate dream plot line is Asumi getting Nanao into her brothel hobby too and them going together.

Also, no one manages to capture the feeling of sexual tension and anticipation so well, she might be the GOAT of hot sex scenes. Like she is one of the few artists that understands that the understated sexiness of panels like this can be hotter than a page of explicit sex poses:

I love everything about this manga so much, no one does it like Itsuki Kuro.

I nearly choked when Makino had him in her phone as "Dude with the Platinum Card" it's just so on brand for her. I love her complete casual disregard of every boy she encounters

I need nothing more than to see Nanao get dragged to the brothel with Asumi and then also get addicted herself, now that they are friends with benefits.Even if they get together they can still keep going. I want that poly route!!

I'm literally feral right now.

This was such a satisfying conclusion to the Nanao arc and I love to see them actually get together. Still hoping for a harem ending though. I love Nanao, don't get me wrong, but I love all the other girls too and it feels like it would be boring for it to end up just being those two in a relationship. I would love to see Nanao also getting interested in lesbian brothels after this experience and the two of them both interacting with all the other staff. There's just so much promise left in this series and I don't want it to end soon as a normal couple yuri story.

And for those that doubt a poly ending is possible, never forget Itsuki Kuro's previous yuri work was a fantastic love live doujin series about a poly triad

This is why this is my favorite yuri manga ever, the author knows what we want to see and delivers every time. I've been reading yuri for probably over a decade and it's honestly so refreshing to see a series like this that doesn't feel ashamed of itself like so many other yuri out there. It doesn't waste 10 volumes on the characters very slowly working up to getting together, it doesn't do any of the "omg but we're both girls, girls can't love girls!" shit, it doesn't bait with romance subplots that go nowhere or constantly introduce forced melodrama or be obsessed with purity or miraculously have a random disruption show up to distract the girls just before they're about to kiss, while at the same time not just being pure pornography for straight men that you feel dirty after reading and actually gives character to all the girls and spends time for plot and fluffiness. And since this manga has been such a success I've seen so many more manga that are actually proud of what they are and celebrate yuri openly without all the baggage the genre has had, we're in a yuri golden age and I think a large part of it is owed to Asumi, the yuri gigachad.

The author said fuck it, I know you want to see Nanao and Asumi get together, lets do it. And I love that. It would have been so easy not to but they put in the time to set up the moment and (hopefully) are going to actually pay it off which I hoped for but didn't expect. I'm still hoping for a harem ending because I love all the other girls too and I want to see the story continue since I think it's kind of dead if Asumi gets into a relationship, but I'd love to see Nanao also getting into brothels and Asumi having a degenerate friend to share her hobby with. That would be a really fun development

For once a sister character gets introduced who doesn't just get in the way, she seems super cute, I like her!

Wow nice going Makino you finally managed to do something so scummy that even I am pissed off. You really couldn't go one hour without treating her like a prostitute again? Days after she tried to kill herself? She looked so hurt in the last panel :(

I guess I have to pay my respects to the author for her commitment to the character. She's supposed to be a scumbag and she remains an unrepentant scumbag, and honestly that checks out because in the past she's only been rewarded for being selfish. She still wasn't thinking about Satou even during that whole suicide arc, she was just thinking about herself and how to get Maron to go back to delivery health so she can keep her one-sided relationship with her waifu going. Probably thought she managed to salvage the situation by lying that she's ok with being just friends and now she can go right back to being selfish. It wouldn't be right if she was rewarded for her actions by getting Satou to immediately fall in love with her. Maybe this time she'll finally learn her lesson when things inevitably go wrong again.
