Unlike recorded history, Lovecraftian outer gods were trying to use him to access our world, and he killed himself rather than be a tool for them. So, after he died they combined his abilities and memories with the body and personality of Clytie from Greek mythology, who absolutely did not want to die, as a way to try to force the plan to work. This particular servant is sometimes referred to as 'Clytie van Gogh'
