There's a Van Gogh in Fate now? And it's a girl?
What is their justification this time?

What is their justification this time?
Oh boy, this is a fun one
So, the real, original Vincent van Gogh was a dude, as recorded by history. Unlike recorded history, Lovecraftian outer gods were trying to use him to access our world, and he killed himself rather than be a tool for them. So, after he died they combined his abilities and memories with the body and personality of Clytie from Greek mythology, who absolutely did not want to die, as a way to try to force the plan to work. This particular servant is sometimes referred to as 'Clytie van Gogh'

Sadly tho with how contradicting Clytie and Vincent's nature is, Gogh ended up as an individual that's pretty much easily unhinged

Who is Clytie?

She's a water nymph from Greek mythology.
Also pretty much like @Shina010615 said she's pretty much a completely new character separated from Vincent. That's why the game just calls her Van Gogh. It's similar to Molay where just the concept of him was used and the outer gods created a female body out of it. Giving us a female Molay but she's not exactly the same Molay of history.

"an individual that's pretty much easily unhinged" sounds like an apt description of the real Vinnie van Gogh mind you...

The justification is that a jpeg of a waifu is worth more than a jpeg of a husbando and it's easy to hand wave a genderswapped version of a historical figure into existence because their core demographic just wants waifus to fawn over anyways.
In other words, gacha is bad civilization.

I'm glad some people here were willing to go into a fun discussion about the narrative reasoning, which in my opinion are interesting reasons for the character's existence and circumstances. I appreciate conversations and people like this greatly.

@SushiKnight by this logic wouldn't fate as a whole be bad civilization? I mean this same line can be used for the earlier games, Apoc, and the Extra games. You might as well have said Fate is bad civilization

Sometimes when I look at "Van Gogh," I get this dread sadness from her even if it isn't a moody picture. I know who or what she is because I have read it, but I still feel a sadness every time, like listening to a moody sad song.
It's an odd thought for me to say, but I just wanted to leave something here...
