aaaah i love this kinda stories <3

This is one of my all-time favorites. I absolutely love the amazonesque delinquent/tiny nerd combo on display here. But with all due appreciation to Wings of Yuri, frankly, this particular translation is...extremely rough...I'd love to see this one redone at some point.

It was already established as a word she uses, flinging it at the bully girls. But with Hayase at the end, she clearly says it with affection. If it's jarring, then you weren't paying attention to the earlier usage.

"Baka" is a slang expression meaning "I am a manga or anime tsundere". I think it's Kyoani dialect.

I think what's "jarring" about the use of baka here has less to do with why it is used in universe and more to do with why it is left untranslated in the text. I doubt I'm in the minority when it comes to wanting stories to read in a believable manner. Reading a story in English with a sudden Japanese word like baka mixed in reads fairly unnaturally to me and comes off as somewhat jarring.
