No, it was just changed. Probably because people kept complaining that Gay for pay doesn't make sense to describe lesbian sex workers, which it kept being applied to, and only makes sense if a heterosexual girl has sex with another woman only for the money.

I really don't know why the moderators are so opposed to a more general Prostitution tag or the like, though.

Pay for gay works perfectly fine for that still. She's being paid to be gay. The reverse, however, is extremely inaccurate for most things that use the tag.

The connotation of gay for pay is that you are being gay to get paid. Meaning you're not actually gay outside of that. That's why the name was changed since 90% of the things tagged as gay for pay were actually characters that were gay to begin with.

All this confusion could've been avoided had they used tag:pay 4 sex

I think the good thing about pay for gay is that it covers situations that don't fall cleanly under the label of prostitution, like the situation of "Even if it was Just Once, I Regret It". The transactional relationship they have definitely falls under pay for gay, but not so much prostitution. Same deal with the story about a girl falling in 100 days.
