Poor Akagi. And poor Akagi's girlfriend. T_T

Overall I really liked "Black & White". It was short but good, with cuteness and tenderness all over the place.

Oh man, the ending of the main story was priceless. And, of course, the extra explained a lot about Akagi's actions during the story.

I gotta say, Takemiya Jin is one of those creators who really Gets It. His characters don't come off as stock characters, they come off as actual lesbians who could possibly exist in the Real World (tm). Which of course makes their work such a joy to read.

Arg, and I was trying to stay neutral. No idea how that slipped through. Not a big surprise they're female, given the storytelling.

If you are trying to stay neutral it's more... "acceptable" to say they or them, rather than defaulting to masculine pronouns. :P

I loved this story! It was just too short. :| She's a good story teller, I hope to see more of her work.

I actually meant to write they/them rather than a masculine. Especially since the reason I was trying to be neutral in the first place was that I was pretty sure Takemiya was female but wasn't 100% on it. Maybe I was overcompensating? In any case, totally my error and it was pretty dumb overall.

Are most yuri mangaka female? It's sometimes hard to tell from their names, and I always wondered... but not enough to research it...

It's more acceptable to say he/she, because they/them is improper. That's plural form. Otherwise, neutral would be "the author" or "the artist".

I liked the characters in this one a lot. Very cute.

Im not sure i understand the last line 'im technicaly a girl too' 'oh right'. Im not sure who is saying it and what they mean, it dosnt realy seem to tie directly to the previous pages statements..?

Can someone enlighten me? I get the feeling its either obvious and im missing it somehow or people arnt realy thinking on it and just letting it slide by.?

I would love if Takemiya Jin did a longer story on Akagi character :3 the extra makes me want to know so much more! Oh dreams and hopes!

Takemiya Jin is truly my favorite mangaka along with Otsu Hiyori :D <3

"Most" is kinda...well, ya know. Off the top of my head well-known female yuri mangaka would be like; Akiyama (Octave), Otsu Hiyori, Hakamada Mera, Namori (half-guess? Think I read that somewhere), Jin, Morinaga and err, Shimura, from Aoi Hana.

And the best known males would be like; Fujieda Miyabi, Kurogane Ken, whoever did Sisterism, and Takahashi (Sasameki Koto).

Pardon any spelling errors or misses. I'm 95%ish on those. So that would lead me to believe it leans towards females.

And I will agree with all the other comments too. Jin's work is ridiculously awesome!

Well, Morinaga Milk talks in the end notes for Girl Friends about the girls' school she went to, so I'm PRETTY sure she's female. Pretty certain Morishima Akiko is as well.

Who cares if they're males/females. If they write a good story, that's good enough for me.

Most of the time that's enough, but it's also nice to have someone with a female perspective writing about female relationships, don't you think? Certainly it works in Takemiya's case.

Am i the only one who hate Akagi's overprotection? I even want Shirai to quarrel with her.

Yeah Morinaga's totally a girl. Or she has a really tremendous double identity. Believe Akiko is too. And 100% agree with your last post too. I like knowing for a variety of reasons. But it's cool, because whenever anyone talks about yuri "perving" on lesbian relationships, I can point out that some of the "most pervy" yuri erotica is written by women!

Wanting to know more of the person behind the work is basic human curiosity, especially when they try to keep their identity under wraps like many mangaka tend to do. Biographies and celebrity gossip rags sell for a reason. As long as you don't judge people for their work (well, within reason) and vice versa, who cares.

Believe Akiko is too.

Well, the name is a give-away, she openly identifies as female, is engaged in the lgbt community and there are pictures of her. So yeah, unless it's a ridiculously thorough fake identity... Many others aren't quite so clear: Namori, Ritz, Kuroda and so on.

Haha, there isn't really such a mystery with most authors most of the time, though, right? I don't know if there's any sensible basis to doubt that Ritz is a woman. Kuroda bb, as well, is clearly male if that was who was being referred to. Namori...I don't really know what is going on with him/her that is causing rumours, but from his/her work I always got the sense that Namori was definitely male.

In general, I always feel that you can sense a clear distance from reality in male yuri mangaka's works. It's not necessarily a bad thing, as there are genres where that's simply not altogether important (comedy, porn, school life, etc.) so there's certainly enough room for great works to be made and for them to survive in the ecosystem. On the other hand, I haven't found any work by a male yuri author which has struck me at all on a deeper level thus far. For any genre outside porn, my favourite yuri mangaka will tend to be always women by far.

It comes down to factors like lacking the straight-up life experience, and idealization being part of the original appeal for yuri in the first place. But I figure a lot of male yuri mangaka are simply not equipped or mentally comfortable enough to step into telling real, grounded stories. I mean, you've got things like the casual way Takemiya Jin threw in the fact that Kurosawa had a 'physical'/exploitative relationship with a guy in this story. To a woman, that sort of thing might simply be an ugly, grim, but ultimately plain fact of life. However, I can only imagine how awkward a male yuri mangaka might feel about introducing elements like that into their story. It's the presence of factors like these that frequently make it pretty easy for me to figure (I feel, at least) if a yuri author's a man or a woman.

Morishima Akiko is not only female but said multiple times that she frequents Nichijou. So she's probably lesbian too.

i never see a boy in a namori story, but draws girls like no one,
the covers of yuri hime are all great, but namori's are really somethings
