That really should have just been all three of them getting together. Literally all the feelings were there, at least in the anime they are. I never read the manga so I don’t know if it’s different.

This isn’t even fanart, it’s drawn by the artist herself! Makes me wonder if this is the sort of ending she wanted to write, but the editor/publisher/whatever vetoed it.
