Looking at it again, this has to be a pun or cultural reference that the translator either didn't know or didn't tell us about. Or maybe it's just a weird, pointless thing (seems just as likely if not as preferable).

Might be that in Japanese The Clit can be a pun on The Ring. Maybe.

Unless there is something I'm missing, I don't think so since Ring in jps is just ringu and clitoris is just kuritorisu (kuri) so I'm not really seeing a connection.
