The French actually translates into something along the lines of "Without you, my love." There should be a space between the "ma" and the "mie". There's a French love song with that title and Google Translate, as of this time stamp, yields that phrase translation if you use the appropriate spacing.
Still not sure if the phrase makes sense in the context of a flower exchange, though. I'm not familiar enough with the characters to make a better connection.
