Actually there are authors who thiks like that. Some time ago I saw a description of an manga artist (can't remember who was it) on twitter. It was something like that:

As a guy who likes het and doesn't care for toys in yuri, my top two guesses would be that adding toys brings it closer to normal hentai smut and that it removes the flesh-on-flesh aspect of it all. Most of the time(on either side) I like my stuff vanilla-y, so I suppose the straying from that "ideal"(for lack of a better word) also helps me to not care for it(though this is linked to reason #2, it feels like it's separate at the same time).

You're kinda misinterpreting things here... "Serious" as in thematics, and "not yuri" as a tangential fact (not "it's not yuri therefore it is serious"). (Although it is a kind of shitty translation on my behalf, because after 80 something pages of porn I was pretty over translating this doujin.)

Gotta love the subtle implication here that there's somehow something different about het porn vs. yuri porn. (let me guess: 'purity' or something? ugh.)

Man I totally don't get the aversion to toys either, but each to their own. I do tend to see more guys averse to them than women, though. (not all men, etc... etc...)

Why?
Because this is the best representation of BDSM i can find, that is porn, period. it spreads awareness in a yummy way and it isn't filled with rape, vomit, prostitution... [insert horrible tag here] it is romantic it is hot it is long and above all it demonstrates BDSM as a valid and nurturing lifestyle and that is far too rare in this society.
All BDSM is consensual and (hopefully in most cases) loving, if it isn't consensual, it is rape.

This was my feelings on it too! I don't know much about the characters themselves, but I adored how solicitous they were of each other's feelings/comfort. So sweet! <3 I was kinda astonished, because reading it made me stop and think "have I ever seen anything where characters acted like this?" D:
